 No.12796

This thread will be used for the planning of my "Temple of Doom" miniseries idea. It's certainly going to be more complex than anything we have done before.

I'll list my current ideas for now:

Formatting

- There will be twelve 36 tribute matches based upon the upcoming temple template.

- The top three characters from every match would go into a thirty-six tribute finale.

- There would also be a match for characters who have collected the most loot by value, as well as a Valhalla match if there would be enough qualifiers.

- Four kills would be the minimum to qualify for Valhalla. Four kill explosions would be removed; three kills would be the maximum for any such event.

- The best of looters event would simply be determined by the top 36 characters with the most valuable collections.

- There would be numerous events involving finding treasures with units in "gold." Some treasures would be much more valuable than others, and after being found for a certain number of times, they would be removed from the template. Events acknowledging their absence could be added.

- If a certain treasure ends up being found more than its limit in a match, its value will be divided by the number of times it has been found.

Rules for nominating

- Standard rules apply, although some things are different.

- Being a "spinoff," champions like Handsome Tulio and Major Lazer can be entered.

- Characters can only be entered alone or in pairs, unless if it's a group of characters like the Ant Hill Mob or the Delightful Children From Down The Lane (i.e. they're not distinct on their own and they're defined by being together. Both characters in a pair will be eliminated individually, e.g. if SpongeBob and Patrick were entered as a pair, they would not be able to be entered individually.

- I also think that inanimate objects shouldn't be allowed, unless if it's a pair like Johnny and Plank from Ed Edd n Eddy.

- Last night I mentioned allowing each character (aside from top threes) having three chances, but then I thought giving every character only one chance would be a better idea. With 432 unique entries by the twelfth match, it shouldn't be too hard to see who has been in already.

Current Plans

- Create the temple template with a good number of events.

- Do a demonstration of the template showing how scoring would be done.

- Come up with ideas for treasures and their values.

- Ask about these ideas.

This thread honestly took a few hours for me to bother posting. This was all I could think of right away while I was busy doing other things. If you have any questions or suggestions, you can post them in here. I'll post any more ideas whenever they come to mind.

Since we are going to have events involving chests, you should also add an event where a character finds a monster disguised as a chest who would try to kill him/her. Those type of characters are pretty common in games like Dragon Quest and Castlevania, and could be an interesting addition to the template.

The event could be written like this:

>(Player1) finds a chest, but upon approaching it reveals to be a monster! (Player1) escapes in time.

The fatal version:

>(Player1) finds a chest, but upon approaching it reveals to be a monster and kills (Player1).

 No.12800

Oh yeah. There was one thing I forgot to post:

- Every third match would be themed, so matches 3, 6, 9, and 12.

>>12799

I have had ideas like that, so they're going to be one of the many obstacles. I like it.

 No.12801

>>12796

Oh boy, a chance to get involved in the creative process. Where to begin…

In classic Hunger Games fashion, I'd argue for some extreme events that can deprive a character of all their points. Something like…

>While (Player1) takes some much needed rest, (Player2) goes through (his/her1) possessions and grabs any treasure (he/she2) can find.

This event triggering would cause all points to be transferred from Player 1 to Player 2.

Something similar, but purely detrimental, could occur as a potential outcome of another event. My first idea would be what could be one of several treasures with negative side effects.

Neutral:

>(Player1) gazes into the fabled Mirror of Truth. (He/She1) is shown the gravity of (his/her1) sins and breaks down sobbing.

Lose all points:

>(Player1) gazes into the fabled Mirror of Truth. As the haze of illusion lifts, (he/she1) realizes that instead of treasure, (he/she1) has been collecting worthless junk all this time.

Fatal:

(Player1) gazes into the fabled Mirror of Truth. (He/She1) realizes that (he/she1) has been dead all along!

 No.12802

Can we also have one event where people escape like in the island game? An anon in one thread suggested an event where a character could escape by helicaopter. He also suggested another event where a character shoots down the helicopter killing everyone on board.

 No.12803

Quick idea for an arena event:

>When an ancient site of human sacrifice is disturbed, the restless spirits of the dead set out to take their revenge on the living.

Survive:

>(Player1) manages to evade the spirits.

Fatal:

>(Player1) tries to flee the temple, but stumbles into a pitfall trap.

>The spirits possess (Player1) and force (him/her1) to kill (Player2).

>While (Player1) and (Player2) fight over a hiding spot, they attract the attention of the spirits, who drag both of them to hell.

>(Player1) and (Player2) decide to sacrifice (Player3) to appease the vengeful spirits. The spirits accept the offering and leave them alone.

>(Player1) and (Player2) decide to sacrifice (Player3) to appease the vengeful spirits. The spirits are enraged by the offering and kill (Player1) and (Player2) instead.

 No.12804

>>12801

I know that how "points" could be transferred would have to be figured out. Right now I figure that if a character dies alone and had a collection, it would count for their final score.

>>12802

Maybe. We might also have to think of whether or not if it would give a character a "second chance." I guess it could be a sort of "twist" either way, at least. After all, this series is going to be done like as if it were a more complex story altogether.

>>12803

Alright. I wonder if two or three of those would be too long to fit, but I'd be able to figure out once I get around to putting it in. I could just rewrite them, anyway.

Anyway, I've got at least two ideas for treasures right now:

- The Crystal Coconut: 900000G (DKC tv show reference; with such a high value, it would be removed after the very match it is found)

- A DVD copy of A Day With SpongeBob SquarePants: 10000G (limit: unsure of at the moment)

Of course, I'd prefer references to /co/ media, but I might let in a few other things, as well as more generic finds.

I guess if certain treasures end up being found beyond their limit in a single match, their values would have to be divided by the number of times they were found. Of course, ones like the Crystal Coconut at the moment would probably be an instant ticket into the best of looters' match. It's not very balanced, but I guess the best that can be done is only have a few of such high value treasures, and figure out how to make the points system decent. I'll try to make a basic simulation of the points system by the end of the week as a demonstration.

 No.12806

Speaking of valuable treasures, here are some suggestions:

Dr. Doom's Painting - It was a MacGuffin of sorts in the Superior Foes of Spider-Man series, so much the main characters ended up betraying each other for it.

Bobo the Teddy Bear - AKA Mr. Burns' treasured childhood toy.

The 1st Issue of Action Comics - In real life this is one of the most wanted and expensive collector's items.

The value of them in the games can be determined later.

>>12806

Some more ideas, off the top of my head

The Krabby Patty Recipe from Spongebob

The Eliacube (unique) or generic Dofus (multiple) from Wakfu

The Seven Leaf Clover from Futurama

Some botles of Gummiberry Juice (Disney's Gummi Bears)

The Waterbending Scroll from Avatar: TLA

Some Lantern Power Rings

The Apple of Discord (Billy and Mandy)

The Dragon Scroll from Kung Fu Panda

The Pink Panther (Diamond from the movies that inspired the cartoons)

 No.12808

>>12804

couple ideas for items

High value:

Kryptonite - it's "rare" in the DC universe

Cosmic cube

Any of the infinte gems

A chunk of vibranium

The enchiridion from adventure time

Map of infinte from ben 10

Dragon balls from DBZ

one of the three journals from gravity falls

Junk or things with low value

A penny

an iou

a bill

a fake map

 No.12809

>>12808

Speaking of junk, I call for an event where a character finds a single gold coin, just for chance of being an amusing tie breaker.

 No.12810

>>12809

Yeah. Like I have said I'll need some ideas for more generic finds. They should make up the majority of the treasures.

 No.12811

File: 1443107413243.jpg (49.2 KB, 359x345, 359:345, Bring me the head of Silve….jpg)

What about the Jawbreakers from EEnE. They are considered valuable stuff in the show, but universe wide I'm not sure. I guess they could be rated as low-tier treasure, or something like that.

Other thing is that I had in mind as treasure but I have doubts if it would be a good idea is Silvermane's Head, which is another MacGuffin from The Superior Foes of Spider-Man. The only problem is that Silvermane is actually sentient and could be considered a character to be added in the roster, so I dunno.

Anyways, another actual idea for a treasure is King Ramses' Slab. Will look for more suggestions later.

 No.12812

>>12811

Oh, speaking of King Ramses, here is a suggestion to a non-fatal event in the night shift:

>(Player1) hears the song The Man in the Gauze being played from a distance.

 No.12813

I think I'll repost some suggestions from last weekend. I probably collected all of them, aside from my own ideas which have been repeated in here, anyway:

>>Player 1 falls into a spike trap

>>Player 1 sets off a boulder trap, killing Player 2 and Player 3

>>Player 1 and Player 2 get hit with paralyzing darts

>>Player 1 and Player 2 get hit with poison darts

Decent suggestions to warm it up.

>Temple of Doom should involve minecarts, magma, crushing machines, and murderous carp.

Deathmatch Guy pointed this out mainly because of what I referred to the template idea. It's going to be a generic temple in the jungle.

>I did have ideas for a couple of Silver Monkey events, at least.

My own idea.

>Can we add events like players finding treasure like in the great cave offense like:

>>(player1) finds thor's hammer which is worth 10000g

>It would be fun to see which player can obtain the most loot.

The original treasure-finding suggestion.

 No.12814

YouTube embed. Click thumbnail to play.

>>12813

>*Insert Indiana Jones reference here*

But of course.

>>Player 1 hides inside a sarcophagus during a cave-in and is buried alive.

The context seems a bit odd. I'm not sure if it's a reference to something.

>>Player1 discovers that the true treasure was inside himself/herself.

I like this one.

>>Player1 finds a penny. It is worth 0.01G

Early find suggestion.

>>(Player1) changes the water level of the temple after playing a song in an ocarina

Probably not going to be added.

>>Player one is being chased by a giant boulder, he ducks and lives.

This could have potential.

>>Savages sacrifice player 1 to their God.

Sacrifice events may be in

>>After deafeating a monster, (Player1) grabs part of the triforce of wisdom

I might consider it.

>>Spike trap

>>Arrow trap

>>Shifting walls

>>Tribals

Essentials, I guess.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCat-nr_0AU

This video was posted as a suggestion for inspirations.

>>(Player1) and (player2) race against time to stop (player 3) from getting an item of power.

>>(player1) grabs his hat before it gets crushed

>>(player1) wishes to obtain the plot device

>and for an arena event

>>Arena event: An wild enemy appears!

>>(Player1) defeats all the enemies and gets 100 EXP

>>(Player1) uses (player2) as a shield from the enemy attack and gains 20EXP

I think that Arena Event idea is a reference to the "Computer Virus" boss from Kirby Superstar's Great Cave Offensive.

>Daytime/non-lethal

>>Player1, Player2, Player3, and Player4 swim in the river and sing about the bare necessities.

>>Player1 drifts down the creek in a makeshift raft made out of a tire.

>>Player1 found a stone mask that activates when blood is spilled on it. He/she throws it away.

>>Player1, Player2, and Player 3 go through the swamps.

>>Player1 goes through a swamp, but an Ogre tells him/her to leave.

>>As Player1's legs are blown up by a landmine, Player2 carries him/her to safety.

>>Player1 and Player2 get into a swordfight. Player2 is defeated, but lives.

>>Player1 digs a pit with spikes in it.

>>Player1 cries from the horror of the Hunger Games.

>>Player1 bathes in the rotten blood of his enemies.

>>Player1 gets stuck in quicksand. He/she gets out.

>Death events

>>Player1 falls into a spike trap

>>As Player1, Player2, and Player 3 trudge through the swamps, a pack of crocodiles eat them.

>>Player1 is sucked into a deep pit of quicksand and doesn't come out.

>>Player1 sacrifices himself/herself to save Player2 and Player3 from Player4's wrath.

>>Player1 and Player2 get into a swordfight. Player2 is killed.

>>Player1 found a stone mask that activates when blood is spilled on it. He/she kills Player2 and gains it secret power.

>Can you change the swords with machetes?

>>Player1 and Player2 get into a machete fight. Player2 is defeated, but lives.

>>Player1 and Player2 get into a machete fight. Player2 is killed.

>Some minor adjustments and additions

>>Player1 cries from the horror of the Hunger Games. The Horror…the horror…

>>Player1 bathes in the blood of his/her enemies

>>Player1 is rescued and lifted out of the arena via helicopter.

>>Player1 is rescued and lifted out of the arena via helicopter. But Player2 shoots it down and it explodes, killing all on board.

>A jungle would lend itself well to animal attack arena events.

>Snakes.

>Scorpions.

>Leopards.

Ideas for environmental hazards.

>Or a temple falling down.

I'm not sure how I'd fit the total collapse of the temple in.

>The temple arena should also have some events involving disgruntled natives or Amazons.

I think so.

>Or Sleestaks.

Dunno what those are.

>That sounds like a neat concept; as time goes by, you could add events that make it look like the place has already been plundered in earlier matches.

>A huge pile of treasure in Match 1 is an empty room in Match 12.

Part of the gimmick of the series is that the temple will change as the matches go on.

 No.12818

I thought that the entire match would take place inside the temple, not the jungle. Thematically, it doesn't really make sense to switch between two locations, does it?

It would be a temple in a jungle, so there would be some outdoor events, I guess.

I'll admit that this is going to be rather bland, as I just halfassed the treasure finding events and only added one other event I had an idea of (a boxing glove trap, just for slapstick). I only removed double suicides and suicide pacts. Nonetheless, this is meant to be a very basic demonstration.

I guess if one character kills another character who had a collection, the murderer gets their victim's score. If a character dies by themselves, their collection is lost. There could also be some kills that end up destroying the victim's treasure so it doesn't go to their murderer's score.

There was a suggestion for a points-losing event.

>Night 6

>Buzz finds a treasure worth 10000G.

>Heinrich throws a knife into Kaku's head.

>Day 7

>Buzz finds a treasure worth 100G.

>Escargon finds a treasure worth 400G.

>Arena Event

>The fire catches up to Heinrich, killing him.

>Escargon falls to the ground, but kicks Buzz hard enough to then push him into the fire.

I think most, if not all Arena Event kills should have the treasures being lost, given the chaotic nature of them.

Now let me organize it all:

Escargon: 110800G

Buzz Lightyear #2: 110400G

Wario: 100000G

Heinrich Von Marzipan: 14800G

Kaku: 12800G

Smiley Bone: 2100G

Buzz #1: 1100G

Marco Diaz: 1100G

Luigi: 900G

Bob Belcher: 800G

15 characters.

Hopefully this could be more "balanced" out when there actually is a temple template. You may as well give more feedback, particularly on things like what kills would destroy the treasures so it wouldn't always be the winner taking the most.

I liked this game more than the first. All we need to do now is add more low value treasures than high value and then add some events that involve finding treasure like:

(Player1) lies about splitting the treasure between him/her1 and (player 2)

or

(Player1) plans to split the treasure between him/her1 and (player 2)

 No.12843

>>12841

I think there should be very few events that destroy or transfer treasure. As you said, we don't want it to be just "winner takes the most", so most kills should not result in treasure transfer. Also, those kills that do need to say so explicitly, obviously.

Also, I'm still kinda against having jungle-themed events. Since the treasures are supposed to be in this temple and it's the focal point of the whole idea, it breaks the immersion if the tributes just switch between outside and inside events all the time.

I could see it working on the very first day, though, something like instead of the Cornucopia, all the tributes just run for the temple and potentially kill each other on the way, and everything else after that takes place inside.

 No.12844

Since people are mostly suggesting fatal events and treasures, I'll write up some neutral ideas.

>(Player1) narrowly avoids falling into a spike pit.

>(Player1) finds a skeleton. (He/She1) decides to name it Esmeralda.

>(Player1) eats some mushrooms growing in a corner. (He/She1) has funky dreams in all the colors. All of them.

>(Player1) finds an ancient tome, but as (he/she1) touches it, it crumbles to dust.

>Some cockroaches crawl all over (Player1). Yuck.

>(Player1) finds a secret room! It turns out to be an ancient lavatory.

>(Player1) dreams of untold riches.

>The lost souls of failed adventurers torment (Player1) in (his/her1) sleep.

>(Player1) suddenly realizes that (he/she1) has claustrophobia.

>(Player1) triggers a dart trap, but narrowly avoids getting skewered.

>(Player1) flees from a giant boulder, ducking away at the last second.

>Darkness surrounds (Player1). (He/she1) is tremendously bored.

>(Player1) realizes that /he/she1) has been holding (his/her1) treasure map upside-down all this time.

>(Player1) and (Player2) try to decipher some ancient symbols, but fail miserably.

>(Player1) and (Player2) team up, each looking for an opportunity to backstab the other.

>(Player1) gets lost in (his/her1) thoughts. (Player2) just gets lost in the temple.

>(Player1) finds a subterranean stream and goes for a swim, but (Player2) has a deep-seated trauma of frozen lakes, so /he/she2) just watches.

>(Player1) tries to push (Player2) into a bottomless pit, but (he/she2) hangs on. Panicking, (Player1) runs away.

>(Player1) and (Player2) look for an exit, but only descend further into the temple.

>(Player1) writes a message on a wall with /his/her1) own blood. It says: "You are next, (Player2)!"

>There is a cave-in, but (Player1) heroically draws (Player2) out of the rubble.

>(Player1) attempts to steal from (Player2), but fails and gets (his/her1) fingers broken in retaliation.

>(Player1) bites on a gold coin to test its purity, but swallows it. (Player2) performs the Heimlich maneuver and saves (him/her1).

>(Player1), (Player2) and (Player3) enter a room with three exits, so they split up.

>(Player1), (Player2) and (Player3) quarrel over a crystal statuette, but it falls to the ground and shatters.

>(Player1) follows (Player2) and (Player3), hoping that they lead him to the treasure chamber.

>(Player1) finds a secret room, but it turns out to contain (Player2) and (Player3), engaged in passionate intercourse.

>(Player1) and (Player2) have had enough of your shit, (Player3). Go sit in a corner somewhere.

>(Player1) follows (Player2) and (Player3), mumbling something about "(his/her1) precious".

>(Player1), (Player2) and (Player3) solve a puzzle through the power of friendship, rapier wit and a walkthrough.

>(Player1) lures (Player2) and (Player3) into a chamber and slams the door shut, cackling maniacally. (Player2) and (Player3) have no choice but to go deeper into the temple.

And a possible escape event.

>(Player1) discovers that the temple was built by ancient aliens. (He/She1) uses their old spaceship to escape the temple, never to be seen again.

I might consider that "outdoors on the Bloodbath only" idea. I think the same could apply for the Feast. You're probably also right that most kills shouldn't get treasure for the closest thing to balance that can be done. I'd probably make it so that there are less treasure-finding events in the night, and none during the Bloodbath and the Feast.

 No.12846

>>12845

I'd also enjoy an arena event that's combined with treasure finding, something like this:

>The adventurers have hit the motherload, a giant chamber full of treasure… and deadly traps.

>(Player1) doesn't enter the chamber.

>(Player1) tries to grab some treasure, but is cut in half by a swinging axe.

>(Player1) and (Player2) fight over a precious ring as the earth shakes and they are both buried under a mountain of gold.

>(Player1) grabs a necklace worth 400G, but (Player2) kills (him/her1) with an ornate knife worth 200G and takes both treasures.

>(Player1) pushes (Player2) into a spike trap and fills his pocket with jewels worth 800G before fleeing.

>(Player1) cuts off (Player2)'s head and puts it on a booby-trapped pedestal to replace a golden idol worth 4000G.

 No.12902

I'll try to make a couple pastebin documents for this within this week for this weekend. To be specific, it'd be documents for the template and the series ideas/plans.

 No.15661

I think I'll take some ideas for Bloodbath events now.

 No.21207

I think I'll disregard having themed matches. It could complicate things too much.

 No.47706

Even though this idea hasn't gotten anywhere in the past few months I still want to do it.

 No.48103

>>47706

Sounds very interesting. I wish we could explore more with it.
