Does /pol/ really admire them so much? There's no such thing as "vacation" when you're working land. You have to be always present, it's only the amount of job that varies from almost zero to all day every day for a week or two.
But you can't leave your plot of land, because there's always possibility of emergency situations like floods or hail or drought or frost, in which cases you need to be present to act quickly.
So, while overall, it would be possible to have more free time, that free time isn't fixed on weekends or can be planned ahead. You have to seize the day when you can.
So there's no real "vacation days" for peasants.

I'll admit the most experience I have with working the land is vegetable garden work. Nothing really serious, all manually. The biggest problem during summer was maintaining the water level.

Crops do grow on their own, but if you don't maintain, you'll have pretty shitty yield. Even if it doesn't take much work. That's why I said there is no true "vacation" from it.
