True, Africa never developed "real" bronze. All objects from Africa that are called "bronze" would be called "brass" outside Africa.
However, the Nok culture already had iron in 700 BC and there are some archeological sites that point at an even earlier origin of African iron production.
Development of iron metallurgy in Africa probably led to the Bantu expansion.
