Basically, they trotted on and pincushioned anyone who stood in the way until got news from home - the Khan is dead. So they return or miss the election of the new Khan. Which is obviously more important than shooting someone who joined someone else who in turn allied with remains of the guys they chased over half the continent in the first place (whom they mostly caught and sold by that time).
