New thread as the old one's been broken for a while now, and basically no longer bumped, which was annoying me. It was also fairly long, so here we go, merry christmas, a new /meta/ thread.

Anyways, let me take the chance to have a little post about the state of things, how's about that?

As discussed before, Infinity Next is fucking us over. I own the board there- no risk of /his/ changing hands. Everything posted between now and the move, though, is going to disappear. As we are right now though, it can't work either- everything's broken, whenever I ban someone I end up 404'd, just getting rid of the old thread and putting this one up is proving to be hell considering once I log out the old one is still the one appearing and this one is nowhere to be seen.

Anons have suggested moving to another chan. I'll be honest, I've never managed to stick in smaller, "dead-er" chans for long- I accompanied plus4chan until it died because of similar circumstances to us right now (admins being idiots, changes of software and url, etc). If you guys want, we CAN look into other chans and open, eh, what's the word, "filials"? Succursals? Embassies, let's go with that.

If we do so though, I'm open to someone else being BO- hell, let me rephrase that, I feel it's not in my place to be open to anything, I don't have any other authority than knowing the username and password here. Don't feel you need my approval to go off and make /his/ anywhere else, hell, if you feel like it, come link it back here and I'll link it on the board.

I'd like to remind you you can at any point come here if you feel we hotpockets fucked anything up. I try to be very laissez-faire with the board, mostly lurking, or logging in for an occasional post/mod action.

The board has 4 mods, of which I only keep in contact with 1, and even then very rarely. This is not their fault or anything, I just suck at keeping contact with people. So far this has been of no problem, but if it ever becomes one, it might become a bit hairy to solve.

Yeah, there are other chans people have offered as alternatives but a full on exodus is unlikely. Despite what other anons are saying I feel like we might be stuck with 8chan for awhile, even though the current state of affairs of the top 10 and the Administration is terrible.

And an exodus from only one board like this one tend to die pretty quickly, if history has taught us anything.

Could care less, but this board is pretty slow so there tend to be lots of dead threads that are almost 6 months old at the bottom of the catalog so maybe it would be a good idea.

The whole infinity next this is like n one likes to live in a half built house but it'll be good once its finished.

I've seen people use bots to repost entire threads from the archives on /intl/. I guess even if there's no way to implement full import, it'd be possible to repost entire threads easily with the right scripts at work.

Just confirming things on this side too. While I own and run the Endchan /his/, I'd still rather stick with 8ch, and will generally pay more attention to things over here unless they're damaged beyond any repair.

The reason why people are reluctant to switch communities is because of the slower speed. If, say, half of 8chan now migrates to XYchan or whatever new chan you people have in mind, and if both have roughly equivalent boards, then boards that are already slow here (/his/ itself being a prime example) will come to a grinding standstill.

The fragmentation already exists in a light version when it comes to 8chans over 9000 niche boards. Now imagine that you don't have one imageboards with dozens of niche boards, but dozens of imageboards with dozes of niche boards.

The best solution would be software that allows multiple boards from different chans to be displayed at once. You'd just open all boards you want to browse simultaneously, and post on the one you like the most, in hope that other people are using it too.

That's the issue, if you don't want stagnation you'll need a good amount of people on the same page, everyone going their own won't work, not in the case of imageboards.
