What do you think the main causes of the war was?

What were the ramifications of the war?

Which nation do you think gained the most from the it, and which do you think lost the most?

What is your favorite battle?

Who is your favorite commander?

What is your favorite weapon and/or vehicle of the war?

What's the craziest story you have about it?

d4e93a No.35651

I literally know nothing about World War 1 other than that there was a lot of shit that went down on the Eastern Front I haven't heard about.

So I'm sitting comfortably. Any stories for me anons?

8f8f63 No.35652

>What do you think the main causes of the war was?

Balance of power between empires basically, a case of "this town is two small for the both of us"

>What were the ramifications of the war?

Can you be more specific? tons of things came out of it.

>Which nation do you think gained the most from the it, and which do you think lost the most?

Gained the most? probably the US or the UK

Lost the most? Serbia, Russia or the Austro-Hungarian empire

>What is your favorite battle?

The Somme

>Who is your favorite commander?

That german guy who was all about artillery, the one that made the germans advance in the eastern front

>What is your favorite weapon and/or vehicle of the war?

I don't know, railway guns are cool i guess

>What's the craziest story you have about it?

The assasination of Franz was pretty crazy

>What do you think the main causes of the war was?

Kaiser Willhelm II trying his hardest to become friends with Britain by being increasingly aggressive to the French, Russia and Britain. Basically, Germany's Foreign Policy was dreadful. Also the First and Second Balkan Wars and Serbian nationalism, however it could be argued that these could have stayed localalised if it wasn't for Germany's encouragement to Austria-Hungary for war.

>What were the ramifications of the war?

Dude, there were a fuck-ton, you're asking how the world was affected after a bloody world war.

>Which nation do you think gained the most from the it, and which do you think lost the most?

Definitely the US, they kept their investments in France and the UK, managed to make trade partners with people who originally traded with the UK, invested more into the German economy, Germany's Reparations had to be paid in the dollar…yeah, a lot of good things.

Lost the most? Austria-Hungary definitely, they completely lost their Empire, Russia later became strong despite the human-cost of the war and subsequent civil war but they still ended up a super-power, Austria-Hungary is nothing now.

>What is your favorite battle?

The Massacre of the Innocents in Belgium between the British and the Germans, brilliant battle where the British Expeditionary Force held back hundreds of thousands of Germans.

>Who is your favorite commander?

Hindenburg, the Hindenburg line was a genius move on his part, never mind that it didn't quite hold the allies back.

>What is your favorite weapon and/or vehicle of the war?

That's hard to say, the use of gas warfare is interesting, I find the use of gas brutal and ingenious. Though the trench-knife has to take it for me, absolutely brutal knuckle-duster with a bayonet on the top for hand to hand combat; imagine getting punched by one of those.

>What's the craziest story you have about it?

Ludendorff, one of two leading German commanders, walked up to a Napolleonic Belgium fort at the beginning of the war after it had been completely bombarded, drew his sword and proceeded to knock on the battered and flaming door before ordering the surrender of the men inside. Absolutely bonkers man, incredible story though.

Yeah, I should have been more specific. What do you think were the largest and longest lasting ramifications of World War 1?

The United States, and Japan.

Austria-Hungary being too bold. Germany wanting to take out Russia.

>What were the ramifications of the war?

World War 2.

>Which nation do you think gained the most from the it, and which do you think lost the most?

Well I know my nation, Romania, gained a lot from it. Russia probably lost the most.

>What is your favorite battle?

Don't have one.

>Who is your favorite commander?

Don't have one.

>What is your favorite weapon and/or vehicle of the war?

I know they were in their infancy but planes sure helped the brits in the middle east(it was probably because the enemy didn't really know how they work).

You probably know about it but the christmas truce.

The quality of this board is declining. This makes me sad.

>What do you think the main causes of the war was?

As in any large scale event there are no main causes but a number of converging problems and a main cause (singular) that tips the balance and blows up everything.

Now the German reason for war was the Baghdad - Istambul - Berlin oil pipeline which needed to be secured from the British.

The Austro-Hungarian reason for war was a declining monarchy that failed to modernize and hold onto power. We can also argue jews: Read L'Autriche Juive - Trocase François.

Also the Serbs being a tool right in the heart of the Central Powers.

The Russian ambition was the Balkans.

The French ambition was revanche for 1871 (The year in which French hegemony on the continent was ended. It lasted just under 400 years).

The British, well they needed to secure oil monopoly for the future. Which is exactly the first prize of the war.

> What were the ramifications of the war?

The war occurred after the bloodiest century the world has ever seen. The XIX'th century saw dozens of major and bloody wars on all continents with China taking the prize by far.

During the XIX'th century war can be considered one of the main causes of death worldwide. (Around 7-10% of deaths over 100 years).

The war broke apart the liberal and conservative truce. It broke society apart which was barely mended together at the end of the last century.

The war caused "hell to break loose and made men become demons". It simply surfaced the unthinkable and the worst of human nature.

It caused empires to fall, alliances to change, ideas to die and worse things to be born.

>Which nation do you think gained the most from the it, and which do you think lost the most?

The US gained an empire overnight. It lost nothing and gained every benefit possible. Not even the British Empire by gaining oil monopoly and by eliminating competition from the Germans could pride itself with more gains than the americans.

Germany lost the most. It lost global power status and will never regain it again. It lost too much territory and population, influence and trade, money and a whole young generation.

>What is your favorite battle?

Marasesti, Marasti, Oituz.

>Who is your favorite commander?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandru_Averescu

>What is your favorite weapon and/or vehicle of the war?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mannlicher_M1895

>What's the craziest story you have about it?

There was about 1-2 survivors in each trench at Oituz and they placed the dead bodies of fellow soldiers in firing positions so that the Germans will not charge the line.

Go listen to Hardcore History's Blueprint for Armageddon and the youtube channel the Great War. Also go watch C&Rsenal if you want to learn about the weapons of WWI.

WWI is interesting to me because it was a major turning point for military tactics and weaponry. For example: At the beginning of the war, the French soldiers still had brightly colored outfits, had Calvary units, were taught to use firing lines, and to advance every twenty seconds since enemy soldiers should be reloading by the time. The Germans meanwhile had drab outfits and Machine Guns.

Needless to say the French got decimated.

The idea that WWI was only trench warfare is false. Soldiers would fight in narrow tunnels, the Serbs fought the Austrian-Hungarians on mountains, soldiers would rush trenches to beat the shit out of other soldiers with shovels, Mustard Gas attacks, men dying from getting stuck in mud and drowning in it, bombs, artillery, submarines, naval warfare, the beginnings of mechanized warfare, so much of what we used now and during WWII had their roots in WWI.

And yet nobody gives a shit about WWI.

>The idea that WWI was only trench warfare is false.

You forgot to mention that the Eastern Front was almost always fought outside of trenches.

>Needless to say the French got decimated.

They lost 40 000 men within the first two days(?), which is absolutely mental.

Depends on how you look at it.

For me the Revolutionary wars, the Napoleonic Wars, The Turko-Russian wars, The Austrian-Turko wars are all bloody.

Also let's not forget the constant revolutions and rebellions.

Got quite a few pics.

>What do you think the main causes of the war was?

RealPolitik. Germany was willing to get some colonies, the French and the English didn't want to lose any, tensions turned into military alliances and averyone was overconfident.

>Which nation do you think gained the most from the it, and which do you think lost the most?

The UK stopped the german colonial ambitions, while preserving their cities relatively intact. They lost the least.

Germany lost because of the treaty of Versailles.

Austria-Hungary split up, and it's people went trought unthinkable losses.

Russia went trought a bloody civil war, which turned into 70 years of dictatorial rule.

Africans lost a lot, especially the Senegalese (who were promised independence by the french, and ended up getting nothing).

>What is your favorite weapon and/or vehicle of the war?

The planes are great, aviation was a crucial part of the war. In the beginning of the war, planes were shitty wood & fabric barely able of carrying a pilot or two, at the end of the war you had bombers capable of lifting over a ton of bombs. Aside from that, the periscope rifle is goofy but interesting.

Aside from that, I've got a few pics.

The UK got pretty fucked by the Americans who granted them high-interest loans and, due to the German blockade, stole the UK's trade partners meaning that they could not control their empire financially.
