Is Latin easy to learn? My first language is Korean btw

47a928 No.36089

Im guessing you know english. The options are paying for a latin course if you have trouble drawing determination or self-learning it, if you use google translate then it will be a bitch to learn.

I'm gonna take course next year, but what I wanted to know was if Latin as a language is hard to learn or not

Why do you want to learn Latin, OP?

Anyway, assuming you only speak Korean (that Wikipedia tells me is agglutinative) and English, those are not going to help much. Latin requires good memory, for more than a hundred desinences (rough estimate, a lot of them can be deduced though) but it won't screw you over with exceptions and such bullshit, it's a logical language.

Also >>>/lang/ would be more appropriate for this thread.

Ita vero.

This should help with translations, barbare.

You'll still need to learn the grammar and fuckton of rules. The good thing about Latin is that once you've got the rules down you're pretty much set.

Good luck mate.

Sure /lang/ is fine and he should check that out but this is /his/. Romeaboos and latinfags galore.

English actually will help *slightly* in terms of vocabulary.

It requires a lot of practice to learn the forms and ways in which they are used, especially when it comes to the subjunctive and the ways in which it is used. Vocabulary isn't too bad since you apparently know English.

If you know Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, or to a lesser extent French, Latin becomes stupidly easy to learn. Especially Spanish and Portuguese, where a lot of the vocabulary is almost exactly the same as in Classical Latin, and the bits that aren't are either closer to Vulgar Latin or stem from English.

I took Latin I-IV in uni as free options. They ended up being GPA boosters and were a welcome break from the endless integrals and linear algebra involved in doing a physics degree.

It depended on the professor's preferences sometimes (like with o, u, i, and v) but generally we followed the Wheelock's Latin pronunciations since that's what Latin I and II used as a textbook.
