force yourself not to be persnickety about your lines looking right and just draw what you see
the idea is that if you study something (human figure for example) enough times, from enough angles, your brain assembles and memorizes the 3d shape of it
it's a lot harder to get this learning from 2d references, even though it seems easier in that your subject doesn't move around

btw megane wrt your sprites I absolutely think you should do a lot of them and spend less time on each individual one. also try drawing them! you're perfectly equipped to draw, but I'm guessing you're embarrassed about your shaky inexperienced style. but I think you just have to squash those feelings if you want to learn anything. and make a hell of a lot of stuff, and show it to people knowing full well it's garbage trash, and get them to tell you what you suck at the most without being embarrassed, without tying your emotions & sense of self-worth to how many mistakes you make or to how many people notice them or how forthcoming they are about it. there are always more mistakes to notice, up until you die
the most wounding criticisms of course are accurate ones. but also the most important ones. so whatever you're self-conscious about drawing, that's what you need to draw a lot of

ahhh but you are actually wrong! it keeps you from getting good! thats why you have to make sketches, throwaway drawings, thumbnails, stuff that isn't meant to be impressive, that you don't have to try hard on, so that you can do more of them, and get an idea of how a thing looks before you actually try to draw it for real and make it look good. I sometimes have to do studies before i do a commission, like if I'm drawing some strange unfamiliar kind of animal dick, and it always turns out better that way
I think it's another common artist mistake to feel like you failed if you make a single drawing that turns out bad. constant failure is part of the process, if you aren't making any bad drawings you aren't learning

naw man, you gotta power through it. this is the pain of art, sucking at stuff and being able to tell. having your ability to draw connected to your feelings of pride and self-worth, only feeling comfortable if you're the best artist in the room, lest a more (or just differently) skilled artist spy your mistakes and realize how incompetent you are, not just as a draftsman but as a person
I'm pretty sure every artist feels this irrational anxiety. and if you're improving, everything you make looks like shit later. if you stick with it longer than the average person, the average person will be impressed by your works, but you won't even see it, you'll still know it's shit in x y and z ways, because you learned by making it
it's totally understandable, it feels bad to clumsily do a thing and have someone go "haha idiot you did this part wrong obviously you dont know what you're doing" and be correct. but there is no improvement except by conquering this fear and reflexive self-disgust. by openly sucking at things & not feeling bad about it

sure, loomis might help, but i think you might find that art books are best for re-reading as you improve, since there's way too much knowledge to take in all at once, and a lot of it you might not "get" until you've consistently tried to do the things that it teaches you how to do better, and it's easy to overwhelm yourself trying to remember every rule and tip and trick before you even really have a comfortable practiced rhythm of drawing
I don't know how to stress the incredible importance of just knuckling down and powering through your first 100 drawings or so. they will all suck because you're still figuring out the basic shit like "how to do consistent shading with the pencil" and "how to make confident lines" etc. THEN you can start worrying about figures and proportions and shit
this is part of why you're supposed to start with the basic shaded shapes, even though it doesn't feel like you need to. you have to force yourself to endlessly grind before you can do the fun stuff

But remembering rules like that is what I am good at. Even though it makes me rigid in that regard.
Yeah, it's probably easier once I have a rhythm going, but without it I feel lost and would like books for guidance.

Anyway I've only had wacoms so I don't know what that one is like, but what I can say is it doesn't have side buttons but I guess they aren't really necessary and it's small.

After doing >>339984 I realized I've made a terrible mistake: creating the character sprite before having at least one background to determine dimensions as well as deciding on a resolution for the game. Hence why the next thing I did was now making this lineart.
Which caused another problem: Initially, I just wanted to trace the background. Then I realized that the perspective in it is fucked, "fixing" it to what you see on the right, as well as other adjustments so it's more consistent with other backgrounds from the show.
And now I'm wondering whether it might not look too sterile. Or how I should apply color/texture after doing the plain fills. I'm not even sure what the heck material the floor is supposed to be.

making a wireframe sketch on a new layer as a little guide can help with stuff like this
it might be more productive to just move on, or re-draw it, rather than try to fix the same image for too long, but in general, start simple and don't add details until the end, so you can still change stuff as you go. and don't wait to add values/shadows until you've inked and colored, sketch them in first, so you know where the light falls, which will help you determine the shapes and dimensions and depth of things
maybe you could try using this doll >>427480 to recreate the pose??

try working faster and making bolder choices with your lines. if you hesitate, your lines will get all wobbly and you'll have to edit them and your figure will look really stiff and lifeless. instead of a series of bending straight lines draw curves. don't worry about whether it comes out looking right, if you spend too much time on a single drawing ("icing a shit cake") it will slow your learning and youll be frustrated. think about making accurate lines like riding a bike, the momentum is what keeps you upright, if you slow down too much you'll fall down
