Man
I'm still sad that Korra was shit
The Last Airbender was my absolute favorite thing when I was younger and all my friends even the normie ones liked it
Literally each and every episode holds up today and it's enjoyable to watch for all ages and for boys and girls. Seriously, if you're a gap toothed 8 year old who just likes the cool action scenes or a 12 year old girl who likes shipping (remember Zutara vs Kataang?) or a 17 year old who recognizes the homages to anime and East Asian culture, you'll love it.
The characters got surprising development for a children's cartoon. The idea was original and the world they built was lovingly crafted. The animation, especially in the 3rd season was great and it was paced perfectly.
It handled both humor and drama expertly, never veering too far into one over the other, and never breaking the flow by abruptly going from one to the other.
I was literally sobbing at the end of the last episode when Aang and Katara kissed, not because of that specific moment, but because my favorite show, one I had followed and watched religiously for years, was over-- I would never see my onscreen friends again. I would never hear Uncle Iroh's words of wisdom or smile at Sokka's shitty jokes or root for Aang.
When Korra was announced, I was ecstatic. Maybe that's why it was doomed to fail-- I had preconceived notions on what it should be. Maybe my expectations were too high.
It's not because of the lesbian pairing at the end (I had stopped watching far before that), although I thought it was just inclusive pandering that never really added anything to the story.
I watched Season 1 and I loved it-- steampunk East Asia was a cool twist, and it was awesome to see how the world had developed since AtLA ended. Pro-bending was an interesting way to have action without affecting the main plot and allowed for cool action sequences.
But Korra was unlikable most of the way through, Mako and Bolin just didn't have the same charm Katara and especially Sokka did, and Amon was a good villian until the twist at the end. It tried to deal with darker themes-- it seemed to be AtLA's darker, more mature, more sophisticated older sister. But the charm wasn't there. The only two characters they added that I gave a shit about were Tenzin and Police Comissioner Befong.
The final straw was the stupid dues ex machina at the end when her bending gets restored for no reason.
I gave the first few episodes of Season 2 a try but besides Eska and Desna it was garbage. Some stupid shit about a civil war and spirits an obviously evil uncle that Korra just refused to see was evil.
It hurts hsg
Ming Hua a qt tho
Also Zelda Williams did a great job as that Earth Kingdom dictator bitch. I love Zelda!!!
