In this society where we are confronted by the paradox of our own identity.
That Western Society gives us the gift of our own individuality, while behind the curtain ripping it away in the non-stop competition among billions that is Late Capitalism, we are confronted by the creation of new culture in this digital age as once happened perhaps thousands of years ago.
Areas called Heterotopes. A Heterotopia. Where the alienated come to yell at anything and everything. Or perhaps a community of people focusing on gardening. A separate space like a boarding school or a motel room where activities like coming of age or a honeymoon take place out of sight.
These places, like here, can be for good, bad, or neither.
They are among people who try to escape the forms of power that dominate them, while hyper focusing on specific (perhaps non existant) forms of those power relations.
They then can dominate one another by those power relations, voiding the appeal of the Heterotope. Yet these people can not escape, because they cannot give up the identity they've put in they felt was taken. It is a never ending Postmodern struggle of human geography.
And the birth of new sprained and stunted cultures, motivated by anti-late-capitalist and post-modern sentiments without knowing it, yet replaying the power relations of the outside within these places, in this never ending struggle. Trying to become more than The Other.
