Well, not explicitly related to this board's "ministry to the internet people" goal, but:
If you're catholic, The Knights of Columbus is a good fraternal order that does charity work of all sorts; from soup kitchens to giving coats to poor kids.
If you're not catholic, you can't join, but if you know a member, you may be able to work "under the table" with them.
I think Rotary and Lions clubs do charity work too, both locally and worldwide, so you could look into those too.
Naturally, your local church probably has charity programs it runs too, be it a food bank, operation christmas child, or what have you. Look into that and ask your priest/pastor/the guy who stands at the front of the sanctuary on sunday how you can get involved.
