Let's talk about rain rot and what you do to make them feel better

>not bringing your horse in when it's raining

maybe you should just stick with getting a cat

There are too many horses out her

Near Texas national forest and my guess is they really should just be in the drier north

Brushing. Lots of brushing. The air kills the fungus which prefers a stuffier home.

Blanketing isn't a bad idea, Anon. I've heard of baby oil being used to smother the fungus. Mostly I just pull off the scabs once it's broken through the hairs. Exposure to open air seems to kill it, so aggressive brushing should keep it from spreading too much.

Assuming you have a run-in shed for your mare to get out of the rain if she feels like it. On the other hoof, many don't so … yeah.

The last has two breezeways up on hills away from where the horses are fenced off it is so dumb. I'll tell her about the brushing and oil she doesn't want to touch it because it's scaly

I have found rain rot can develop under blankets over the winter, especially if you leave them on when it turns warmer

.

I use 4 parts blue listerine mixed with 1 part mineral oil on bad cases. It isn't easy to get rid of especially if you have many horses. You have to pick the scabs, or scrape them off with the flat edge of a knife.
