You've got to take the horse out of the stable in the morning, fill the hay nets daily, replace the bedding at least once a week, replace the water buckets every two days, pay for the farrier + rent for the stables… and bring the horse back in every evening.
It's not so much the cost of keeping the horse though, as much as it's really a huge waste of human time and labor in the 21st century. Robots need to be doing this shitty manual labor.
Plus most stables have rules like "no dogs", "no intact stallions", and so on. It's still a nice way to spend your afternoons if you've got friends with you, but theft, and personal vendettas over a fucking recreational activity can be a problem (you get some really snotty shitheads owning horses).
Also, the fantasy of fucking a horse and the reality of actually doing it crosses a line which I'm not sure I'm comfortable about.
With all of that said though, if you enjoy the idea not of fucking horses but of tutoring them and being custodian over them then don't let me discourage you from the idea. It's not as expensive as people imagine. It's just demanding physically and of your time.

That's more of what I would like to know about. Care, raising, and ownership of horses. I've been trying to find stables in the area that might take me on as a volunteer or trainee, but no such luck. I do have some experience clean up, tacking and untacking, and walking horses. But I want to learn more so one day I could keep a few of my own.
