Well, first, if he's as quiet as you say, you can clean a hell of a lot by just reaching up there. Be gentle, and keep an eye out for anything that might startle him, because if he jumps while your hand is in there you'll both get hurt. That was what I did when I worked with horse sales. They didn't need to be spotless though, and I wasn't in a position to let anyone think I was enjoying it.

If you need him cleaner than that, the key to geldings is to get them to relax. Excitement makes them hide their dicks up where it's safe, stallions have the hormones to override that when they're horny, geldings don't. So, as the other poster said, feed him, pet him, scratch him wherever he enjoys it, and do all that somewhere there isn't much going on so he's got nothing to worry about except feeling happy. Once he's showing a bit, gently work your way over to playing with his sheath and caressing what's showing. He's not going to get turned on unless you've got a mare in heat to frustrate him with, so you want to think in terms of coaxing it, not forcing it. One thing that often happens with geldings, is he'll get just far enough for the head to pop out of his prepuce, and then pull it all back into his sheath. Just keep coaxing him along, if he let you get that far it'll be back soon.

Once you do get him erect, you'll probably have to be careful to clean him. That stuff will likely be stuck on, and it'll be uncomfortable to peel off, which will make him retract.

Another option is that horses get morning wood. If you know when he sleeps, and you can spend enough time with him that he trusts you enough to guard him while he sleeps, you can just wait for him to wake up. First or second time he yawns he'll rocket out of his sheath, in my experience. How long it'll stay up varies wildly, from only a few seconds at full hardness to a couple of minutes with a bit of belly slapping.

I tried the best I could. I used a warm sponge got him a bunch of treats (apples bananas pears carrots etc) and we were in a pretty secluded area so he wouldnt get distracted. Tried stimulating him the old fashioned way just jerking the sheath.

I didnt him to full erection best I managed it maybe a pair of inches out of the sheath. I tried to get the most of the gunk out of his sheath but jesus christ it smells bad, like spoiled milk or rotten eggs. As you said it yourself there is a think clay-like layer of and when I started peeling it off he retracted and that was the end of that.

I unfortunately cant be there at 6 or 7 am when the horses get let out to pasture.Maybe there is like bath he cant take or some kind of stimulant I cant use.

Thing is the biggest problem is that it smells. It not too strong but definitely noticeable. I just hope he doesnt have any kind of infection down there.

The only thing that pops to mind is maybe prostate stimulation? Like I guess I slide a finger down his poop shute and tickle his prostate so he would get erect but then again it dangerous and highly suspicious.

I will speak to the owner mayber convince her to get to the vet. Maybe a doctor has got a better idea.

Well, there are two last tricks, if you do have reason to suspect an infection. His dick should smell earthy, but not bad. I was never involved in trying either of these, so you'll be on your own.

One is to get a vet to sedate him. A sedative will relax the muscle he uses to hold it in. (That's a trick for spotting a horse that might have been tranquilised for sale, too. Can't keep it in where a normal horse would be keeping it safe.) I did help with horses that were sedated to be gelded, they'd hang a few inches out. I don't know if the vets use the same sedative for cleaning. If he's infected you might need vet advice anyway.

The other is to tie him and throw him, then just reach in with gloves on and scrub it out. The owner of one gelding I knew used to get the farrier to clean his sheath, and since he wouldn't let strangers mess with his sheath, that was how the farrier did it. Can't give you any advice on that one, I never saw it done.

I never tried reaching up the back end. Horses have got relatively thin colon walls, you need to know what you're doing, and I don't. I heard horror stories of horses dying when they got ripped by a stallion nailing the wrong hole or a new vet pushing too hard and never wanted to risk it. So I never put more than a finger in. I have known a couple of geldings who'd drop when I played with their arseholes, but not many.

Finally managed to get it done.

I watched a few youtube vids and read a few articles about it, common thread seemed to be that the horse has to be calm, a point I horribly underestimated.

I tried cleaning him in the cleaning stall and he just was too agitated for that. His ears stood on end, he would eat the treats etc.

I noticed his member come out of the prepuce when he is mingling with the herd on the pature, so I decided to take a risk and see if i could do it there.

Surprisingly he didint take much persuading and dropped after I massaged his member. He did expereince mild discomfort when I peeled all the smegma off the member but dropped immidiately after. I spent the whole day cleaning his dick and now its all spick and span. He was well behaved and stood planted like a tree for the whole time.

have to say though after today ordeal I dont find horsecocks as appealing as I used to

nope. smegma is sebum based, and is hydrophobic. water wont dissolve it, which is why you need to use soap and scrub it.
