Can we get a thread for sharing pictures of some of your favorite elder/outer gods. Try and be more unique than simply cthulhu. Starting with my favorite, nyarlathotep.

Nyarlathotep genuinely unsettles me. I mean they all do to some extent, but most Lovecraftian monsters aren't so much malicious as seeing us as insignificant. Nyarlathotep pretty much comes off as outright hating us in every story he's in.

That said, my favorite story is The Colour Out of Space, but for numerous reasons, it's impossible to accurately portray, since it's an indescribable living colour that doesn't exist within the known spectrum.

There's so much great imagery in it, and it's possibly his most truly alien creature. This mist that turns into a globule of color and drains the life and color out of everything around it, possessing it at the same time. The trees becoming like hands clawing at the sky, the deformed cows, the poor family becoming these crackling, mad corpses with light pouring out of their faces.

I didn't realize until after posting this you wanted gods, not just creatures in general. My bad.

In that case, gotta go with Yig.

Of course, there's always He Who Shall Not Be Named.

Creatures are fine too pretty much any other worldly entity that shares our sphere as well as the others.
As far as creatures go my favorite is the elder things. It's so hard to tell whether they'd be friendly, malicious, or just generally uncaring like all other lovecraft creatures.

And I do love the one who's name shall not be spoken. I was so excited when true detective made mention of "the yellow king" and "black stars rising in carcosa" but it looks like there won't be any portals or tentacle beasts in an otherwise amazing series.

>Nyarlathotep pretty much comes off as outright hating us

I thought that made him less scary because in a way it kinda brings him down to our level

Yig is based, 10/10 deity, would worship
Also I like snakes so I'm pretty sure he'd be cool with me, he tends to come off nicer than most powerful creatures in Lovecraftian lore as long as you don't hurt snakes

YES SYEYSYSEYSEYSEY SYEYSS E YSEYS EEYS

GHAAHAAAHHGHH

Have you listened to YSDC's podcast of Tatters of the King? SHIT
SHIIIIIIIIT IT WAS AWESOME

absolutely my favorite god. plus there's the Delta Green interpretation of HEWHOISNOTTOBENAMED as literal entropy, that is, he is humanity's personification of entropic forces - the death, the insanity, the discord he causes are just the universe's chaos manifesting itself …
which blew my fuckin' mind

Also he goes really well with barn owls. Don't ask me why, he just does in my opinion. I like to view them as Nature's Byakhees.

Yog-Sothoth.

be33cb No.316

I have a couple of questions. I've seen several images of Nyarly resembling OP's picture, but I don't recall him ever being described that way in any of his avatars in the stories? Not being a dick, just wondering what the source for the "3 legs and one tentacle for a head" is.

I always like seeing people's interpretations of the Hounds of Tindalos and Hastur, particularly the Hounds since they aren't really described in Long's story, and their concept is interesting. Wanna astrally project backward through time? Well fuck you, these things are going to tear you apart eventually.

Not entirely sure where that description comes from. Most canon sources describe him as being able to shift his form to whatever pleases him or humanoid like pic related. I think it comes from an effort to merge the two into a humanoid figure that seems to be wearing a hooded robe but the truth being far more frightening and beyond comprehension. (Go figure right)

Damn…. I very recently finished bingewatching True Detective, and now I get the second image.

Imagine if the cult had been into Yog Sothothery instead
