I removed some tag parents and realized I made a mistake, but when I went to add one back I get this when I push the add button in the parents dialog:

More info on this:

This all happened in local tags. I started with:

Parent -> Child

A -> X

B -> X

C -> X

I added:

A,B,C,D,E,F,G -> X

all in one operation because I wasn't sure if I already had A B and C in there.

It looks like the box considers the duplication of A B and C to be petitions for deletion since they're already in there. I didn't want that, so I told it to rescind the petitions.

Something went wrong there. I can no longer add any parents for X. The error in OP is what happens when I try.

I think I have fixed this problem for tomorrow. I have also stopped pairs being removed/petitioned/rescinded if there are any new pairs in the list you add, which should reduce accidents.

Furthermore, the dialogs will attempt to resort items after you add them, rather than leaving them at the bottom of the list.

The sibling dialog had the same issues. Let me know if it still happens, or you see any other weirdness.

I would like in future to improve these dialogs, possibly by filtering them as you type a child/parent, to make it easier to see what pairs already exist.

Any thoughts? I could have database corruption. I'm tempted to just replace the tag with a slightly different one and recreate the parents.

I am sorry about this. These dialogs could do with a full makeover, when I find the time for it.

I think your db is fine, and even if it isn't, this sort of problem should be recoverable. The traceback suggests it is a problem with my gui code trying to access unexpected data behind the row in the listbox that shows the pairs.

I have had a look at it and rewritten how the pairs update so this error should not possibly reoccur. I think I was trying to be too clever before. Now if there is an unusual pair relationship, it should recover rather than spit errors. If you happen to use the Windows extract release, feel free to try this special version:

Or if you don't, or you don't want to mess around with that hotfix, these changes will be in next Wednesday's release as normal. Once you have tried it, please let me know if it gives you any more trouble.

FYI I ended up replacing the misbehaving tag and recreating the parents. Everything is working okay. If you want I can try to add parents to the old tag again.
