hi there,

i've been using hydrus for a while now and am pretty happy with it. the only inconvenience i'm experiencing is the program being slow to respond from time to time.

most often this happens when i type the first half of a tag and the program begins crawling tag suggestions. then the program locks up for about a minute and then works fine again.

my db is about 7 GB in size and i run the program from a HDD partition that is separate from my OS partition. i run windows 7 64bit and my hydrus is version 181 (will update to 185 now).

from reading how other people here have been importing *booru images en masse, i'm getting the feeling that my 8k images are still relatively few.

is there anything i can do to make hydrus operate more smoothly or is my db too large?

Mostly make sure your hard drive is defragged and that your database is regularly vacuuming itself in file->options->maintenance and processing. Under speed and memory of the same dialog, you can increase the threshold and timings that the autocomplete waits for before fetching results, including converting it to a completely manual system.

Autocomplete results are too slow right now for most users, no matter the size of their collections, so I would like to convert it to a streaming system. Actually matching your search input to the list of tags only takes about 0.15s, but gathering accurate file counts for a specific search domain is what takes so long, so I want to see about chopping that stage up into smaller bits, especially since the vast majority of your search results are off screen and don't need accurate results quickly if I can roughly sort them otherwise.

I will have this big rewrite on the soon-to-come voting list of new features.

8k images with a client.db of 7GB? How is that possible? I have around 600k images in hydrus and mine is only 4GB.

I assume he means the whole folder. A no-files ptr-synced client.db is about 2.2GB or so, and if he's at 7GB for 8000, that probably makes about 500KB per file, which seems to make sense.

If you do have a 7GB client.db though, >>1576 , let me know! That's a problem!
