Hi there. I updated from 181 to 189. Now client.exe crashes on start, leaving behind a crash.log. Not sure if I missed something? I downloaded the zip and extracted on top of the existing installation, as I did for every update.

I think you hit the problem in the v185->v186 step, which was when I moved from 32-bit to 64-bit for Windows. Please check the release post to see how to perform a clean install:

http://8ch.net/hydrus/res/1589.html

And let me know if you still have any problems!

Yeah, that was it.

Some left over xml.parsers.*.pyd files were causing the trouble.

One clean install later the client starts up. Converting the db to 183 it stumbled over the next issue while "updating flash thumbnails". "swfrender_win32.exe stopped working" for 4 out of 206 files. Not sure if I need to do anything about that?

Oh, and since I'm pestering you already, I want to ask about another thing.

Hydrus tends to sit there, showing one "busy" in the lower right, but no apparent disk or cpu activity. During that time it does not check subscriptions. Doing a "force unbusy" helps, but feels wrong, since I don't know what prompts it to be busy. Is there a way for me to find out what causes this?

I got a few of those as well when I updated as well. As far as I can tell, the swf thumbnail generator works on space magic, so when it breaks, it can throw a big fit. On the hydrus end, those errors seem to be caught no problem, and I have it set to allocate the install_dir/static/flash.png thumb as a fallback. I haven't had any problems since, so if your client continued to update and now boots, I think you are ok.

The bit under file->options->maintenance and processing that says 'Assume the client is busy if any CPU core…' is the only thing that can cause 'system busy', so if you click 'ignore', you shouldn't see that again. Maybe it is set to something very low for you, like 1% or 0%? I think the default is 25%, which generally works well for my laptop, which I also do all sorts of media and games on.

Now I think of it, that control should probably have a minimum value of say 5%.

The verbs on that dialog are confused as well. I will update the language a bit to explain the difference between not idle and busy.

Oh. That affects subscriptions as well? That would explain a lot. I have BOINC running in the background so there's pretty much one core at 100% all the time. D'oh. Thanks for pointing that out.

Maybe a mouse-over text could hint at why hydrus is busy or what busy means or something like that?

 No.1745

Btw it seems that when hydrus currently is busy and you uncheck "Run jobs when the client is not busy?" the client is stuck in busy. Maybe it stops checking if it should switch between busy/not busy but doesn't reset the busy flag? Checking the flag again and ignoring the cpu load immediately got hydrus moving. So thanks for pointing to that setting.

Thank you for the update. I set it so closing the options dialog will refresh the status bar and wake all the daemons in case you alter those idle/busy options, and I merged 'force unbusy' into a new 'force idle' that sets both idle and unbusy and stays that way until you turn it off.
