i have problems getting completely hypnotized. my mind is always interfering and i don't get that "hypno" feeling everyone is always talking about. I just feel slightly more relaxed. am i doing sonething wrong?

whats it like to be under hypnosis?

 No.14018

Honestly, "slightly more relaxed" is a pretty good description of it. Letting your mind wander isn't a bad thing, really. When people talk about being in a hypnotic state, they talk about that place just between sleep and awakeness. I know my mind starts to wander just when I'm about to fall asleep, so it doesn't really bother me. Trance isn't some magical state where shit happens, it's just a state of relaxation. The fact that you can feel even slightly relaxed means you're well on your way to become a good hypnotic subject.

some sensations maybe typicall for a state of trance

- heavyness of legs and arms

- tingly feeling like goose bumps or asmr

- fluttering eye lids or rapid eye movements

- hightened sensitivity like itching

- increased salivation

- ticks or twitches of fingers, arms, legs, head

- drifting away and loss of track of time

- loss of physical feeling, floatiness and different feeling of orientation in space

and generally it is often said that a lighter state of trance is better for long term suggestability in hypnosis

pure bliss

One of the problems you, and tons of people run into, is an unrealistic expectation of what a trance state is.

First and foremost, there are degrees of trance and it is not a binary state.

Like the above said, feeling a bit more relaxed is a pretty good start, so is feeling a bit more focused.

Hypnotic amnesia and time loss/time distortion are symptoms of and a particular response to trance, but that isn't trance as a whole.

Also, it requires practice, and one of the best ways to practice is to listen without expectation.

Find something low impact, something that isn't a series of hard suggestions, and listen to that, that way there's nothing to measure against, nothing to create a success/failure dynamic in your listening experience.

I find that I end up thinking about the weirdest most unrelated things that sometimes go in odd directions. Often they are set off by something the 'tist says but my mind just goes on tangent after tangent and then I realise its 10-15 seconds later and I have missed some statements. Is this something to work on (concentration on what is being said) or not worry about (my subconscious is picking up what is being said without me)?

From my own experience that's actually a good indicator that you're more fully engaging with the trance process.

If you let yourself continue down those sorts of mental tangents eventually you'll blank out, at least that's what's happened for me many times.
