Hey guys, I just thought I'd let you know of a tutorial I made for hooking the text of Idolm@ster SP on PC so as to read it with Translation Aggregator. Obviously this is intended for the untranslated routes. I finally found a way to hook this game without breaking the emulator.

I already made a similar post of this on /vn, hope it won't be a problem

Great work! It's a shame that the text hooker isn't compatible with the PPSSPP version 1.00 and up, since it seem to emulate im@s games with less bugs (Like how the President's sprite disappears in the 0.98 but appears in the newer version)

Would the same method works for Shiny Festa?

I'm unaware of that bug, by the President's sprite you mean this? I think I've had graphic problems with the game, but trying different configurations or resetting them to default has helped. In my opinion, PPSSPP 0.9.8 runs it pretty good, no speed problems, and more importantly it looks much better than on an actual PSP.

>>Would the same method works for Shiny Festa?

Yes, it works with Shiny Festa too, I forgot to mention that, and I think it's not limited to PPSSPP 0.9.8.

On a curious note, thanks to this hooking method, I found out that the songs in Shiny Festa seem to be subtitled since the lyrics are directly hooked to ITH VR Engine when you're playing them in the rhythm game!

That's the one, I think; compare that with this in your video. https://youtu.be/Gs23c20IW2I?t=135

I believe both of these characters share the same sprite as they're the canonically the same person. Aside that, on personal experience I find that version 1.01 works out of the box; there aren't visible errors even without changing the default configurations.

No, that's due to the dude originally compiling the original scripts for translation purposes fucking up and just listing Chief Takagi as "President" when the sprite callup is listed as "Takagi." Dude did the same with Kuroi, listing him as "Pres. Kuroi."

It's the main reason why I made slight edits to the Perfect Sun scripts and threw them up on /@/ years ago. Also, the whole "Echo" thing. I'm pretty sure I did the same with the translated Wandering Star and Missing Moon scripts, but you'd have to basically recompile the ISOs for those.

The files should still be up on Yukipo.

Turns out the revised scripts I compiled weren't linked on Yukipo. Just as well; I mostly threw these together for one of the guys working on the translation.

Well, I'm not sure I get what you think the problem with that sprite is (not appearing sometimes?), and since I haven't really noticed it I don't see it as a problem.

In any case, I found a probably more reliable method for hooking the text of the game and should work with any version of PPSSPP, I myself have tested with 0.9.9.1/ 1.0.1 working with no problem.

It uses a hex editor program called Cheat Engine (using a very important plug-in, mind you) instead of ITH VNR.

BUT for this method you have to type Japanese each time you want to hook the text of the game, and that might not look pleasant or possible for everyone. Also the text from the choice boxes can't be hooked (well, it should be possible, but still haven't managed to do it and I don't really need that).

Anyway, I won't go into specifics, but what you basically have to do with this method is:

1) convert the text from the dialogue box (or just a portion of it) to hex,

2) use the hex data to make a search with Cheat Engine,

3) choose the most appropriate address Cheat Engine finds.

And that's it, the text should be automatically pasted to Translation Aggregator.

Also the encoding of the games is JSIS

I should be making a new video tutorial showing this soon, but for using this method you people can check this:

http://heartnokuni.livejournal.com/70323.html

This is for hooking PPSSPP to Cheat Engine (yeah, the tutorial uses JPCSP, but that doesn't matter, it works with PPSSPP as well)

http://forums.fuwanovel.net/topic/11298-i-made-a-prototype-of-text-hooker-for-emulated-games/

The Cheat Engine plug-in which will allow you automatically copying the text of the game to the clipboard, and thus to Translation Aggregator

Again this is for those who want to run the SP games and have the text hooked on something besides PPSSPP 0.9.8

Another thing. Tried Dearly Stars + Cheat Engine to have the text hooked. Seems to work. The game's encoding is JSIS.

I don't have much interest in this game (I mean, I WON'T produce a trap because I'm not gayyy *religiously jerks off to futa* no homo).

Joking aside, I might conduct some more tests later, but really this game is not a priority for me atm, but the least I can say the text in black background and the text from the dialogue box use two different hex addresses. Also for the dialogue box, you should pick the address that renders text with lines like these ----------- because other addresses sometimes don't render the entire text.

Finally, the hex addresses seem to be fixed, which means that you don't have to convert Japanese to hex each time you wanna play, just enter the addresses in Cheat Engine, but you never can be sure and might depend on your emulator might .

I guess I could make a quick demonstrative video.
