Tell me everything you know about 7chan

ab8500 No.343

It was made because people was fed up by the moderation of 4chan and died because it was an elitist circlejerk.

This.

It had a brief quality period but ultimately contributed nothing to chan culture save acting as a respite between 4chan deaths and rebirths.

d7243f No.347

The site is still up, but no one posts there. To make 8chan survive, we need to learn from their mistakes.

7chan is way before my time. I only got started on imageboards back in december 2010.

I was just on it doing some snooping to see what it was because I've never used it. I have a gut feeling that it was created by someone who was not American because of the way the date is formatted [year, month, day]. The whole site seems to be abandon. The latest announcement on the home page was from march and the Random board hadn't been updated from 2014. Kind of spooky

> [year, month, day]

To be honest that's the only sane date formatting.

a45a48 No.354

>>353

seriously?

the year only makes sense at the end

that way, you can shorten it without confusing people

day month year seems like the best option in my opinion

ab8500 No.356

The year hold the most information, knowing it you can narrow the search space to 365.2425 days, while knowing the day helps little. It also follows the logic of how we represent time and decimals, and it's the international standard as defined by ISO 8601.

Polite sage for off-topic.

7chan was apparently good for a brief period, but it died simply because it was too elitist and nobody ever really cared that much about it.

8chan is best chan!

I used to regular on /men/, the gay porn board. Didn't go on others that much. I think it was more popular than 420chan's gay porn board or any other site's until 4chan got /hm/ which killed /men/. I think /men/ users were the 1st or 2nd top donators in keeping 7chan alive one time.

I've always liked it despite it being slow. It had some nice things that other chans didn't have, though they usually don't last. For example, I remember them running their own torrent tracker before installgentoo and /mu/tracker were created.

I guess the comments about their elitism are coming from ultra-newfags, and I can sympathize with the 7channers in that regard. I wrote this in the same vein for a /cow/ thread on /pol/:

>Imagine you're at the movies with your friends. You have some in-jokes and you rib each other for fun. Then, someone approaches your group with the Encyclopedia Yourfriendsica. He has studied the banter. He pretends that he's been one of your friends all along, using your in-jokes–often incorrectly. When someone makes a joke in a weird way, he corrects him with the textbook definition of your in-joke.

>Eventually, more of them join your group. Eventually, your friends leave, and the group becomes a group of people impersonating your group of friends. The cycle continues indefinitely until the theater goes out of business.

I'm guessing that a relatively small group of people have stuck with them over the last nine years or so. A new, active user that nobody recognizes must stand out as much as a tripfag would to them.

ce9fb9 No.388

the site has way too many boards for how (in)active the userbase is (see: 4-ch)

some serious merging might possibly bring it back up to speed

3d4322 No.409

With all of the giant drama over Infinity-next and the switch from Vichan, I'm honestly quite worried if regular users on 8ch will eventually bleed out and run off to one of the many offshoots being advertised.

I'm already posting on endchan. They have a spirit and some damn good symbology. Omega symbol, black anon, and their tarot card is The World.
