>>1626In regards to opening up, here are a few things that worked for me.
>Write things you want to talk about before the therapy sessionThis is one of the easiest ways to overcome your fear or inability to share things you want to overcome or tackle. Keep a journal with all the topics you find important and all the things that are bothering you, if you find it difficult to express your feelings in speech, just hand him/her the journal.
>Prepare for each session>Reset your expectationsJust remember you are not there to tell an interesting story or spend an hour talking non stop, don't forget the reason you are going to therapy
>Let the therapist guide youIt is their job at the end of the day, they may not give you the answers but they will lead you in the right direction
As for what to expect, it's pretty different so my experience with it will probably not apply to you. I've had two counselors in my life and both had different approaches.
I recommend you open up as much as possible(Assuming it is relevant to why you're there). If you have crazy thoughts, I'd tone it down a bit but other than that.. Just let it all go.
