I just realised. I have no idea what I want to do with my life–and that's okay. It's okay for me to not have a perfect plan. I can pursue Financial Independence instead and use that time to "discover myself" so to speak. I can travel, study what I want, when I want and indulge in my animu and vidya as I please.

What does /improve/ think of financial independence? It makes complete sense for someone like myself.

Make sure you save up, get some accounts like ones for say assets and another for general savings

Also look for jobs that are not only paid well but are in tune with your schedule

I'm going to be very blunt and say that financial independence is for everyone, you retard. The problem is how to attain it.

You're going to find life very expensive and down the road when you don't have the extra cash and lack the necessary build up for that good job you're going to regret it.

And when you say you have no idea what you want to do with your life that also includes what to do in terms of work. Start focusing on what's important. Namely your career, anime and vidya are nothing but chores with a really nice coat of paint on them.

He doesn't need a "career" today. Right now, he just needs to pay the bills - and since he's young, he probably doesn't have many.

There's nothing wrong with taking the night baking shift at Panera Bread while you try and figure out what you really wanna do with your life, and he can even take some community college classes on the side.

I wish I did it. Jumping straight into Uni with no idea what I wanted to do with my life to try and figure out my "career" was the worst decision I've ever made. It's caused a lot of problems for me.

OP, don't rush into things - take you time, and do it right.

Luckily, I'm in a situation that's perfectly salvageable with some hard work(but I did change my career path for good), but I pissed away a lot of money that could've gone to something else.

I wish I could've spent that time doing something else, too.

I still don't know exactly what I want to do with my life, but I've at least got a pretty good idea of where I'm headed now, and I can work things out from there.

OP, you just has to start going somewhere and see if you likes where you're going. If not, you can always change direction. And please, don't overcommit yourself unless you have to. Debt is a terrible thing.

Financial Independence isn't for everyone though. Some people actually like work, they just want meaningful work.

>You're going to find life very expensive and down the road when you don't have the extra cash and lack the necessary build up for that good job you're going to regret it.

How do you know that I'm going to find life very expensive in the future? Is that a prediction based on global economic trends or something?

What's a build up?

I'm in the midst of my degree in Mechanical Engineering.

I know that I want to do engineering. It's just that I don't feel too passionate about it compared to my other hobbies. Thanks for the advice anyway.

>Is that a prediction based on global economic trends or something?

Yes. Look at the pay rates that have remained flat, vs the the rising cost of education/goods.

I'm not saying you should know what you want to do for the rest of your life but talking like a idealistic youth saying naive shit like "I can travel, study what I want, when I want and indulge in my animu and vidya as I please" is just asking for trouble.

Of course, you could live with your parents and work while doing this but in my experience you will tire of it very quickly and go off the deep end as you become more and more depressed without any express purpose to which devote yourself.

>without any express purpose to devote yourself to

The whole point of me retiring early is to use that time looking for just that. This is why my spend my time leisurely studying whatever I want as I please. So I can re-enter the workforce with a vision for what I wish to do. I've done my research and once I retire in my 30s, I should have enough money saved up for about 30 years.

In my 60s, I either re-enter with my vision or I commit mahasamadhi.

Well, whatever you decide to do, do it fast. Don't piss away your 20's with nothing to show for it.
