Sup guys.

I'm usually stiff as a brick and I'd like to pick up dancing as a way to loosen up and express certain things about myself through body language.

Now, shich style do you think I should learn?

 No.3262

ballroom styles are great for posture.

will straighten you out and give you more presence and balance.

if you want a bit more flair try looking at jazz/swing dance.

don't pick a dance style based on music. you'll be surprised how many modern songs are based on waltz and rumba/chacha beats.

I'd avoid going with modern styles like hip-hop etc. because most of the instruction is focused on teaching a handful of moves, especially at the beginner level.

Sounds what I'm looking for. I'd like to go with tango, problem is that schools in my area require you to bring a dancing partner, which I'm in short supply of.

>if you want a bit more flair try looking at jazz/swing dance.

Also a nice suggestion, never thought of those.

Thanks.

dont know how it is in your area but most here have a beginners "latin ballroom" class that covers all of the waltz foxtrot rumba tango etc.

>problem is that schools in my area require you to bring a dancing partner

are you male or female?

less males go for ballroom and some schools will keep you on a list if a single girl shows up

if you're living in a poor area try schools in nicer areas too.

>think of the demographics that are likely to be interested in dance without a reason like a wedding.

it might be a bit of a commute but you'll also be interacting with people that are "above" you as well.

also look at this video

dat poise!!

good posture boosts confidence and it just looks really classy and hot

Will look into it.

Male. Sounds nice, I'll hit up some schools and see.

Maybe you know the Big Bang theory episode, but unless you are in a student town or participating in a dancing class that is specifically aimed at students then there is a big chance that most people of the class will be middle-aged with just a few younger people.

I'm not saying that this is a bad thing if it's just about dancing for you, but you should just know what to expect.

It's mostly about dancing, yes. Thanks for the heads up.

Small update, finally worked up the willpower and courage to call somewhere.

Turns out it's exactly as >>3279 said, males are in much shorter supply than females and the teacher told me she'll definitely find me a tango partner if I do stick around. It's a small group of people too, so my assburgers won't hurt that much.

Aaand, had my first lesson with a female teacher. We worked on posture, walking with style, she taught me a couple steps and we danced a bit.

Great fun and a great tool for self discovery, recommended.
