What does /improve/ think about caffeine?

I've never really been a coffee drinker, but today I had 3 strong coffees and I felt noticeably more motivated and energized.

I didn't realize the effect caffeine has was so noticeable. No wonder people drink coffee all day while working.

Going to try drinking tons of coffee every day this week and see if I get more done.

 No.3165

Not sure why, but I generally feel pretty sensitive to different kinds of coffee. Sometimes I'll drink it, and it will actually have a downer effect.

Energy drinks give the most solid and consistent boost for me, but I try to avoid them because of the high sugar content.

 No.3169

I started drinking it every morning with breakfast recently, i certainly feel a lot more energized and more sociable but the downside is i get extremely irate and irritable at times too

I used to drink about 3 big cups a day. It actually made me drowzy and sluggish more often than not. Not sure if that's normal. I'm quite a stressful person too so the restlessness and irritability caffeine causes doesn't really help at all. But school pretty much required me to keep drinking my morning coffee because I'd fall asleep in class without it.

Now I've switched to drinking one cup of coffee in the morning and then a lot of tea during the day/night. The amount of caffeine in tea is considerably lower, like 1/5 or 1/3 of that in the same amount of coffee, I mainly drink it for the taste though. But it doesn't cause me to shut down or become a trembling mess like coffee does often.

It has many beneficial health effects.

http://raypeat.com/articles/articles/caffeine.shtml

Coffee drinkers have a lower incidence of thyroid disease, including cancer, thannon-drinkers.

Caffeine protects the liver from alcohol and acetaminophen (Tylenol) and other toxins, and coffee drinkers are less likely than people who don’t use coffee to have elevated serum enzymes and other indications of liver damage.

Caffeine protects against cancer caused by radiation, chemical carcinogens, viruses, and estrogens.

Caffeine synergizes with progesterone, and increases its concentration in blood and tissues.

Cystic breast disease is not caused by caffeine, in fact caffeine’s effects are likely to be protective; a variety of studies show that coffee, tea, and caffeine are protective against breast cancer.

Coffee provides very significant quantities of magnesium, as well as other nutrients including vitamin B1.

Caffeine “improves efficiency of fuel use” and performance: JC Wagner 1989.

Coffee drinkers have a low incidence of suicide.

Caffeine supports serotonin uptake in nerves, and inhibits blood platelet aggregation.

Coffee drinkers have been found to have lower cadmium in tissues; coffee making removes heavy metals from water.

Coffee inhibits iron absorption if taken with meals, helping to prevent iron overload.

Caffeine, like niacin, inhibits apoptosis, protecting against stress-induced cell death, without interfering with normal cell turnover.

Caffeine can prevent nerve cell death.

Coffee (or caffeine) prevents Parkinson’s Disease (Ross, et al., 2000).

The prenatal growth retardation that can be caused by feeding large amounts of caffeine is prevented by supplementing the diet with sugar.

Caffeine stops production of free radicals by inhibiting xanthine oxidase, an important factor in tissue stress.

Caffeine lowers serum potassium following exercise; stabilizes platelets, reducing thromboxane production.

High level coffee coming through

Put Butter, and a raw egg yolk in that bitch. Best coffee you'll ever drink

 No.3237

I shit you not, I have NEVER tried coffee in my life.

Since I was very little I've had let's just say above average levels of energy. I was running circles around everyone but as soon as I hit 16 that died down but I was diagnosed with ADHD and all that bullshit. I've never drank coffe for the doctors said it would do no fucking good despite me becoming a lethargic faggot from the age of 16 and beyond. It was kind of implanted into my head from an early age that caffine = you're fucked.

Should I give it a try? I've been thinking about it. If it will help me concentrate (I'm sure as hell my pescription of Ritalin and Risperdone did nothing but permenantly fuck up my hormones during Puberty)

Not to mention I cannot drink hot liquids until it is very cool like a bitch. Why is that even?

I like caffeine a lot, but coffee will make your teeth yellow really quickly if you drink a lot of it regularly.

So I bought a bag of caffeine anhydrous (powdered caffeine) and a scale from Amazon. Now I just measure out how much of a kick I want, dump it in my mouth and drink a lot of water. A cup of coffee is roughly 100mg of caffeine, so it's easy to estimate.

If you do this though make sure you get the scale, taking too much caffeine sucks. And caffeine overdose has to be one of the shittier ways to die, though you'd have trouble accidentally taking that amount without doing something dumb.

won't the egg yolk cook?

 No.3338

>>3276

The egg yolk won't cook unless it has been in the coffee for too long.

I recently started drinking coffee for the health benefits. I enjoy it now that I'm used to the taste. I recently ordered some kola nuts online, I'm hoping to work them in as a beneficial supplement.

Something I haven't been able to find useful info on yet is caffeine's addicitve properties, I've weaned myself off other drugs so I'm not worried about it at all, I'd just rather not deal with the effects of withdrawal

 No.3347

>>3346

You just get mildly dependent on it for your day to go through as usual.

Unless you drink heaps of it the withdrawal isn't going to be that noticeable. While in school I had two to three big cups a day and if I didn't drink any one day I'd just feel somewhat more fatigued, irritated and have an annoying headache looming for hours, that was it basically. Nothing you can't get through with ease if you want to.

 No.3357

It's filth. Like borrowing on credit. You're overclocking your circuitry to get a buzz in the here and now, but over a long enough period of time your base level of energy and happiness dips. Hence why hardcore coffee drinkers are fog-headed zombies unless they get their fix.

It's atrocious for your skin, second only to dairy for causing acne, and not particularly great for your guts or your teeth. There's also a case to be made for it contributing to the development of schizophrenia.

I don't tend to take coffee because caffeine puts me right to sleep.

However, if you are going to take coffee, I suggest two things that will help you get more out of it.

First, get yourself some L-Theanine. The stuff's found in green tea, and can round out some of the negative effects of caffeine (anxiety, poor sleep, high blood pressure) while improving attention. Take 200mg for every cup of coffee.

Seecond, make sure to take weeklong+ breaks from coffee usage every once in a while. Yes, this means dealing with the shitty withdrawal effects for a little while, but getting rid of your tolerance will help you get more out of your coffee.

 No.3387

>>3164

don't be intimidated about the withdrawal effects people are talking about.

the worst of it is a headache and being shitty and impatient.

you'll just be a road ragey asshole for a few days.

 No.3850

>start drinking coffee

>feel like shit unless I have coffee

Fuck coffee tbh it's a blue-pill.

 No.3878

if coffee works for you then drink coffee, I'd probably consider investing in an aeropress & a porlex grinder or a hario or w/e. the jump from instant to whole beans is huge and doesn't have to cost a lot. those two pieces set me back AUD$100 and the beans I buy are fairly cheap. still head & shoulders above a lot of cafes

if caffeine makes you jittery, consider taking some l-theanine alongside your caffeine source. synergistic compound found in tea that evens out the effect

if that still ain't working for you but you still want something you can consume, try modafinil. be conscious of tolerance development, otherwise no real worries here

and if you want to do something, consider meditating

 No.3924

>>3164

It's good as a weight loss (witouth milk, it is 1cals per serving, and black coffee is a good apetite stopper).

Otherwise I don't recommend. Anything that "boost" you, will end up just making you "normal" and you'll experience great energy loss when not taking your daily dose.

Same shit with Sugar and Cigarette. If you try to quit smoking, you'll experience great fatigue and energy loss, until your body is free of that shit.

 No.4144

I've been a caffeine fiend for a while and have gone through periods where i've not had any. Currently giving it up, again.

At my worst was I think 1.2 grams or more in the form of nodoz in a morning.Tolerated, but uneasy and really spaced out all day.

The tolerance to effects is quick, like smoking cigarettes. In fact it's pretty similar. After a while it just becomes something you do.

It is also extremely addictive. I find it quite difficult to give up. Alcohol was much easier.

I'd suggest keeping it as a treat, or something just to socialise with.

If you're a large user it takes a very long time for your tolerance to drop completely. And a long time for your body to re-adjust. 6 months to a year easy.

I found it did impact my sleep. I could fall asleep fine but it wasn't good sleep. It'd feel like I'd just closed my eyes then 6-7 hours later I'd open them and not slept much at all. Mornings weren't great.
