Have you ever wondered why so many people have vision problems? When you look at how many people are essentially blind without prescription glasses, it makes you think that something is very amiss with our environment. There's no way that humans in ancient times could survive with the crappy vision that they now have. This got me worried when I was thinking about it in conjunction with doomsday predictions, so I looked it up.

The scientific consensus seems to be that nearsightedness is caused by too much close work, in other words reading and computer screen use. Another suspected cause was lack of outdoor play.

So hopefully this may provide you guys some impetus to get outside and do physical activity. Bad vision is a very noticeable negative effect of sedentary lifestyle, at least if you wear glasses. So it can serve as a constant reminder of the need for physical activity.

Do you guys feel greatly less depressed when you have run or ridden a bike outside? When I do something like that my body just seems to get 50% better. I even seem to get stronger erections. It only lasts a day though. You have to do it continually.

I do try to limit the amount of time I spend staring at screens if not for the eyesight problem so much as getting depressed when I've spent my entire day indoors browsing the net. I don't usually have any problem getting outside and doing exercise, I almost always make myself go out for at least a few hours, but there has been a few occasions recently, made worse by being at Uni, where my eyes have become irritated through staring at my laptop too much. The realisation is there but the motivation to stop can be lacking, especially if i'm in a shit mood.

I often wonder how people can literally piss away entire weeks by just gaming on their laptops and doing absolutely nothing else, you'd have thought that the health effects would be the same as they are for someone conscious of how long they spend on a PC such as myself.

I dread to think of how my eyes/mental health will fare if I end up with a desk job which would involve being cooped up in an office for 9 hours a day.

try gunnar optics with your prescription lenses, that solved my desk job problem, and honestly, I feel the same way, I have like 2 friends that when they are not working are extremely irritated or tired, doing stuff alone really is the kicker right now in my life.

what do you do for improvement for eyesight?

you raise a valid point with everyone having shitty eyes, I like my glasses aesthetically but I'd like to not have to need them ( or not need them so much)

can you improve the eyesight? is it just going outside and not using computers? some other thread mentioned some "bates method" to fix.

eyesight thread,

>a desk job which would involve being cooped up in an office for 9 hours a day.

this is my current situation, and it's killing my eyes, my back and my soul.

My past job was at an IT firm, and everyone there was basically aged 10 years more than they really were or just had fucked up health problems due to the sitting I presume. It was sad, really.

same person. Though at the same time, there were others who seemed fine, and even some guy who was a shredded professional level dancer. Depends on how you maintain your posture and just your genes, I suppose.

>is it just going outside and not using computers?

The medical industry will never figure out the natural remedy, I'm sure, because they can just make money with surgeries and lenses. We can only guess at the natural solution.

My educated guess would be, yes going outside would counteract about 80% of the damage. I would imagine that using your far range vision is important to counteract the near range vision of a screen.

That's why I personally want to take up frisbee golf, and other ball sports.

>Natural way

There is a natural way. Apparently our eyes have muscles in them called that you can train. If you train your eye muscles you can better your vision.

Of course this is all my friend talking and I haven't got the time to research the topic myself neither did he told me his eyesight got better (he has a 4-6 in European scale for near-sight).

We know that certain attributes and physical features in humans and animals only develop if there is enough outside stimulation.

There have been some studies on kids that grew up on a farm who turned out to have way less incidents of myopia.

So there are strong hits that it's a civilizational illness caused by the lack of outdoor activities.

The amount of sunlight you get has a big part in degrading your eyesight. In some asian countries like 80% of the population is nearsighted because they spend too much time indoors and even when they're outside they avoid the sun because of the darker skin = poor laborer scum association ingrained in their cultures.

But is it something that can be fixed? It would seem if you're old enough, it's permanent?

Or is the answer really just as simple as standing around outside?

Focus on things a mommy distance away. This gives your eye muscles a work out, which keeps them functioning.

Just like many things with the body, it adapts to best suit your activities.

>a mommy distance away

My mother isn't very tall, shouldn't I look at things farther away than that..?
