Theory: There are three stages of how your brain sorts out how motivated you are with your goals

>Goals you don't think or worry about, that you can safely ignore without getting worried about not completing it right now

>Goals you obsess or get anxious over not completing, that cause you distress when you don't complete them

>Goals you obsess or get anxious over that are easy to jump in and work on, perhaps even passively

Not sure where I'm going with this, but I think the key is setting a goal to make one of your anxious goals easier to work on passively, for example, if your goal is to stop browsing chans, you can set a goal to only browse /improve/ so at least you accomplishing something.

there's another tier:

>goals that are really more like chores that you pretend are accomplishments

other than that, i agree with you.

>find obsessive, anxious, distressing goal that's difficult to complete

>identify why you cannot complete it

>this is your new goal

>keep identifying why you cannot complete it until you can't identify a new goal, write them all down

>work out the longest amount of time you estimate you can manage to work on the least difficult goal, e.g. 10 minutes

>set a timer, x minutes of work, x minutes of recreation, repeat until goal is done

>move up your list until your goal is completed

To add to this, make sure to reward yourself afterwards. Doesn't have to be physical, could be something as simple as you tapping yourself on the back and saying "I did good"

To add to this, here's a method of building confidence and motivation to achieve goals passively

Take a moment to mentally remind yourself how euphoric you are, not in an autistic sense, but in a lifestyle sense

Most people are not improvement oriented, you should feel good about wanting to improve, to lift and to build character, because the normies you're surrounded with are usually filthy casuals who aren't enlightened and will continually disappoint you and pull you down to their level of mediocrity

You should feel pride in being humble enough to even consider making yourself a project, because nobody else will

As long as you remind yourself, you know that mediocrity will have no power over you
