What are some strategies for maintaining work output while keeping up personal appearance and wellbeing? It seems like I can't do these both at once. The obvious answer is to take on less at a time, but the appearance and wellbeing habits I'm trying to form are basic, like showering, but I can't just stop school and lucrative projects to work on myself either.

Write down how much time you actually need. You will find some fat to cut.

 No.3787

Figure out what is most important and maximize speed of procedures.

That's all you can do really.

 No.3844

Update- my answer was checklists and exercise.

The checklist keeps me doing whatever I'm not currently focusing on, and the exercise gives me the energy to do it. Of course, it's only been a week, but this has been a hell of a productive week, and I think I can keep it up.

So I've discovered through running that I have a breathing condition, and the sense of reward I get from keeping notes is gone. What a kick in the balls. I'm starting to think there's no substitute for early age discipline.

Just form habits that are positive.

After a few months they become effortless.

 No.3952

Not him but I've been trying to form good habits regarding sleep and hygiene for months. However, I keep getting setbacks and lapses, sometimes for a couple of weeks at a time, and then it requires just as much effort to get back into a good state as it did before, and after a few good days I lose momentum again and fall back into old habits.

I don't know how people manage to wake up every morning, shower each day, and go to bed at a decent time every night, I really don't. Not to mention I'm NEET, I don't have studying or work to do so I don't have to juggle my time like OP. I have no idea why I'm finding it this difficult.

 No.3953

>but I can't just stop school and lucrative projects to work on myself either.

You never find time, OP, you make time.

Make a daily, weekly, and monthly checklist for yourself and OCD the shit out of it. These are unbreakables, you must get them done before anything else. Most of this should be your morning routine.

Daily:

Shower

Brush teeth

Floss

Mouth wash

Comb hair

Vitamins

Weekly (Sundays or Mondays, to start the week fresh):

Trim nails

Trim nose hair

Trim beard

Monthly:

Haircut if you can afford one every month

Start a small habit, add to it. If you aren't showering and brushing your teeth daily, start there. Then add vitamins to the routine. Then add nail clipping every week. Track it with your checklist, always be sure you've got this stuff done and checked off for the day before you walk out the door.

>Not to mention I'm NEET,

You won't be able to force yourself to get up early without a commitment to actually get up for like work.

I hate to say it, but you may want to look at getting a job in order to build some self discipline which can flow over into other areas of your life.

 No.3958

>>3957

I'd guessed that might be the case. I was hoping to get my shit together before getting a job so I would at least be confident that I could survive the first week. That's the whole reason I started getting into self-improvement actually, because I was in a completely unemployable state this time last year.

I struggled with college a few years ago, and that was before being NEET for 5 years. Even though it was only 3 days a week, I had less than 70% attendance due to being unable to keep my sleep, diet and hygiene routines in check.

Perhaps I will just have to dive into the deep end, but I really don't feel confident in my ability to keep afloat.

 No.3960

>>3958

You sound like me. I literally can't handle anything. I have no positive routines at all and I sleep 12+ hours per day. I have no idea how normies can have jobs and somehow have time for other things.

 No.3961

>>3950

That's what I'm trying to do. Psychologists say it takes 90 days. I'm counting down from 90. I've essentially fallen out from most of my more complex habits, but on the plus side I am brushing and showering more.

I was kind of hoping to be able to do more than an 8 year old can do though.

>>3952

Is there someone you can talk to about this? Even if it's just your mother. She'll be glad to help, unless she's a psychobitch.

I've spoken about it with each of my parents they divorced when I was 7, and each of them are very supportive, but there's nothing they can really do to help with my personal issues. At least, we haven't figured it out yet if there is.

My mum is a very busy person, and my dad hasn't lived with us for 16 years, so it's been difficult for them to spend much time with me. I've toyed with the idea of moving in with my dad for a change of life at his suggestion, but that's a big decision that would involve a lot of commitments and sacrifices, and I get overwhelmed by the thought of it.

I'm still quite tempted by it though, as much as I like all the stuff in my room at my mum's, and my "freedom" to do nothing all day, it's all just keeping me locked in this negative cycle.

 No.4011

School is really kicking my ass guys. I'm going to have to focus on self improvement in the summer and add it on later. I can't deal with this.

I'm not sure how you are going about forming habits, but it should go like this:

>Plan out what you are trying to do

>Find a trigger/que

>Start small, and I mean really small, so small you'll 100% do the task

>Reward yourself straight after(really important)

>Gradually increase the effort and time required for the task at a comfortable and gradual pace. Do not go too fast

If you're wondering what a trigger/que is, it's an existing habit that you will use to "remind" you to do your new forming habit. For example, dinner, going to the bathroom, breakfast etc, whatever other habit you've formed. So if for instance I was trying to learn guitar, I'd do it straight after dinner everyday. The dinner would act as a trigger and make me much more likely to do it. Not to mention since one is an already formed habit it'll make it so much easy,

The key thing to remember is start so small you'll 100% do it, reward yourself and then gradually increase the effort required

To add to this, I highly recommend you read "Power of habits" by Charles Duhigg. It goes into so much more detail and is a must read. I'm currently looking for a free version of it that I could post here.

^This is a TedTalk that covers everything I've said. This is an exception to the rule that all TedTalks are garbage. Highly recommend you watch it because it explains habit forming better than my short summary.

If we knew your general timetable we could help you out more. I think it's fair to assume you are burnt out at the moment or on the brink of it. If I knew your timetable I could make you a plan that could help reducing the stress you currently facing and make your path to improvement more manageable.

You don't necessarily have to make huge change at the moment, it's all about tiny daily change that will eventually build up and become major. You may not have time for everything you want to do at the moment, but I can guarantee you can make room in your daily routine for tasks that will make changing significantly easier in the future.

I'm not really sure how adding anything is going to help, but here's my schedule.
