 No.381

so It's a new year, I suggest you guys attempt this… Keep in mind that racking up some short books is a way to make room for longer ones.

I started on Christmas day, so I am one week in.
So far:
Week 1
1. Way of Men 5*
2. Reuben 4*
3. Storm of Steel 4*
4. handbook of traditional living 4*

Rated on a 1-5 scale

This is a good way imo to encourage you to get those books read you've been dragging your feet about

Is the challenge to read 52 books within 52 weeks? Or finish at least 1 book a week? For example if I read 20 books in a month will it count as 20/52 or 5/52? Excuse the retarded question..

I think I might just do this. Any good books you want to recommend?

 No.385

>>383
I take it as 52 books within 52 weeks so yea 20 books in a month would free you up for 32 books over the next 11 months.

As for books to suggest I am interested In alt right reactionary literature. so antthibg that arktos would publish. (Iron pill stuff)

There is an iron pill torrent out there with very good stuff.

I am reading Faye's ArcheoFuturism right now which is excellent.

 No.404

Well, fuck. I just got the Complete Sherlock Holmes Collection.

Technically one book - with 60 stories.

How the fuck am I meant to do this? I'll likely finish this book by the end of the month, but still. Maybe I'll count it as 4 books? Possibly 5 or 6?

 No.406

>>404
I just looked it up, it contains 4 full novels and 56 short stories. I would break out each novel and make the short stories 1 book. So I would say you count it as 5

how do you have the will to sit there and read, I was diagnosed with ADHD as a child, I honestly don't know if it is real or not at this point, but i really want to read but i find it hard to just sit down and do it. Any tips?

 No.4710

Listening to audio books on your smartphone/mp3 player as you drive/bike/walk/run around is great.

Did wonders for me.

what are some good git gud books?

i'm gonna start with marcus aurelius,

is gorilla mindset worth reading?

>>2031

audiobooks while you cook/workout/commute/work

also try to set aside some time to repair your attention span.

set a timer and commit your absolute focus to reading as long as you possibly can. see how long you can go before your mind starts to drift or you get distracted, then add five minutes every day.

if you have trouble, try going for a run first or doing something psychical.

I'm currently working my way through How Linux Works. It will probably take me more than a week though seeing as how technical it is. I have a few more books that I'm interested in reading though. I think I can do 52 books if it's not tethered to a book a week. My current list is so

>3 Felonies a Day

Recommended by an Investigator for a Speech on how Privacy is Dead. Really like that talk.

>5000 years of Debt

Economical Anarchist Graeber. On paper is everything I hate but after watching his lectures I was blown away.

>How Linux Works

Currently working through it.

>The Linux Command Line

As above

>Vi by O'Reilly

I want to read it because of the fucking monkey. It makes me laff evrtme.

I think we should all keep an excel log or something like that and post it again at the end of the year(assuming /improve/ still exists.

>>4852

>what are some good git gud books?

That's such a broad question. It depends on the topic

 No.4867

Don't do this.

You should be enjoying what you read and analyzing it with care to suck up all the information you can.

There's no point reading if you rush, as you won't get much out of it.

Take your time man.

 No.4877

>>4852

Gorilla Mindset is pretty straight forward. If you read DnP regularly its not that good, but it summarizes all the techniques in one nice, short book.

But it its only effective if u actually do the ecerxises regularly. Than again that's the same with every self-help book

 No.4896

>>4867

You are half right but an easy goal can motivate you. I would say read every day for at least 30 minutes. That doesn't hurt and you can drop a book when it sucks. But you will read more when it's fun.

For people like me reading isn't instant fun but once you are in the flow you can't stop.

Oh, I did this in 2015. By the end of it I became pretty good at finding short books.
