No doubt most of us here have suffered or are suffering from computer and internet addiction. Daily 8+ hour stints just staring at screens.

I've been working on this a lot lately but the trouble I'm having is that although I can get myself off of the screens and stay away from them, I have NO idea what to do with all the time afterward. In the end I just kinda drift around my place.

The best way to break a bad habit is to replace it with a good one, but I haven't found a good habit that's compatible with this. Working out, meditation, reading, etc - they're not something you can do for 12 hour stretches.

Has anyone found a good way to deal with this

A couple things I'm thinking as far as productive replacement of screentime with something similar enough to ease the transition is taking some courses on say Coursera or Khan Academy. Maybe pirating Rosetta Stone or using Duolingo, all these things can add up to serious computer time while actually providing benefits to life.

How can you do that? Dont you have a job or sonething?

My advice is if you want to be more productive with your time, get a job.I know it doesnt look much but it help mentally. After you have your job youll know what to do

Problem is these days you really can't do shit without a computer, so the moment you sit in front of one to get something done it becomes like a gateway drug and you end up doing some other shit instead and it becomes a net time-waster

It sort of reminds me of this biz guy telling me how hard it was for him to beat his alcoholism because when doing business he always ended up being dragged to a bar and being the only guy drinking a soda its tough…

As >>3939, if you want to function in this world you will need internetvon your phone to whatsapp, you need check your email everyday.

I stopped smoking weed by not going to Amsterdam amymore, it's a bit more difficult with the internet/computer.

That being said, I didn't beat this addiction yet but my methods so far are to delete all and any games you have (including minesweeper and co). Next install mozilla add-on leechblock and delete all other browser (if you know something similar oj another browser, go for it. Although in my experience this is the best website blocker). Block all timewasting sites but keep an hour a day open. Also make it so you can't access the add-onn from the outside and disable leechblock.

Then make a new user on your computer and give it administrator rights and take away yours so yoi wkn't change the clock manually to go on the hour you can have your free time.

That's where i'm now, good luck.
