What is your optimum sleeping pattern /improv/?

As a student, my pattern is fucked and I regularly go to bed about 3 am, miss morning lectures by waking about 11 and subsequently feel fucked off and pissy for the rest of the day.

 No.455

I'm always trying to fix my fucked up sleep schedule but I usually go to bed from 12 to 3 and wake up at 12 or later. It's fucking annoying and even when I try and stay up all night and go to bed early the next day in order to remedy it I fuck up by waking up too early or sleep fourteen hours straight.

 No.457

When I'm not in school I go to sleep at like three and wake up at eleven. I don't feel like shit when I do this, but during school I go to bed at nine and wake up at five. I'm back in school this week and I feel like shit this morning.

 No.463

I often to go to bed at around 3am and wake up by 8am. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing…

 No.476

>>463
It depends on how you feel. Do you intentionally wake up at 8am(alarm clock) or unintentionally as in you just always wake up at that time?

Who knows you might be one of the lucky few who requires very little sleep.

Sleep at the moment is my weakness. I usually go to sleep at 4am, struggle to fall asleep and then wake up at either 12 or latest 4pm. If I wake up too late, it has a domino effect on the rest of my day and I'm more than likely going to be less productive.

Hello me. No seriously i know how you feel, yesterday i went to bed at noon, and i woke up at 7pm, then went to bed at 2am and i woke up at around 5:30/6am and now its 9am qnd i feel tired and sleepy, sleeping problems are a bitch. Not sleeping all day works around 10% of the time for me.

 No.539

I don't work anymore. I stay up till the sun comes up. It's 7:30 right now and I still am up from yesterday. I woke up at 3PM. sometimes I don't even sleep till 9-10am and wake up at 5PM. I hate myself for it, but I like being up late. Even when I worked I was staying and going to work with 2-4 hours of sleep. I've been like this for a long time now. Since I was out of high school.

 No.558

Student here aswell, going to try the triphasic sleeping cycle in about a week. I'll post results.

I'm interested, don't forget to update.

I know all these feels
I can never seem to get it back on track, sometimes for a day or 2, but sooner or later I always end up staying up for way too late which fucks everything up again.

Also it's so easy to stay up an hour late/later, but it's near impossible to fall asleep early/earlier..

 No.633

This has been my biggest problem for some time. Every day I think "ok, time to fix this", but every night I fuck it up and don't get to bed until 2 or so. Gotta wake up at 8 every day for work, so I get to work like a fucking zombie.

I feel like what I need to do is to pack up all my computers and store them, but right now they're my only real interaction with people, since I work pretty much alone out in nowhereville.

Are pills a workable way to alter one's sleep schedule?

 No.634

>>633
This is pretty much me although I'm slowly becoming more and more used to waking up early.

I actually go to bed at 12 but fall asleep at like 3 or 4, and then end up having to wake up at 7 completely tired as shit for the rest of the day.

I have restarted going gym lately and that has helped matters in the sense that I feel tired enough at the end of the day to just be able to fall asleep in less than 30 minutes as opposed to trying for 3 hours or more and failing. I also think the more I keep going to bed at the same time eventually I will develop a new sleeping pattern.

If you're having trouble getting to your bed early, scrap the pills idea and work on disciplining a set time at which you go to sleep. Even with pills you'd still feel like shit if you went to bed at 2. If your problem is actually falling asleep then try exercising or alternatively apparently cold showers work as a good counter to insomnia, not to sure about this one.

Everybody, get f.lux asap. Restart your computer after downloading it, and set the night mode all the way down to incandescent, and slow transition. You won't even notice it, but it reduces the blue light output from your screen, which interferes with melatonin, which makes you feel sleepy. It syncs with your computer's clock so that it begins dimming the blue light in sync with sunset. Compared to a non f.lux screen, it will look very red, but if you set it to the slow transition you will never even notice that it has changed. It's made a huge difference for me and I now have a hard time staying up past 1am, I'm going to bed earlier and getting up earlier and sleeping better. It's fucking magic. Get that shit.

 No.640

My work starts at 9am, so to get ready properly I really have to wake up at about 7.

For me, getting to bed by 10pm is an absolute necessity. You know when you're getting enough sleep judging by whether or not you are regularly waking up by an alarm clock or not.

When I go to bed early and get hours every night on a regular basis, it changes literally everything about my life.

Social anxiety? Gone.
Gains at the gym? Near-effortless.
Mood? Drastically improved.
Sex drive? Up, morning glory every morning, real desire around the opposite sex.
Bags under the eyes? Gone.

It's hard to keep it up when normalfags are always trying to convince you to do late-night shit with them but boy when you get into the habit it's worth it 100%.

 No.652

I had a fucked up pattern.

Now since a week I`ve been getting up at 07:00 and getting into bed around 22:00, spend some time reading and then doze of.

The first few days where hell, but now I`m getting the hang of it. I do use a wake-up light and cold showers before bed and after I wake up.

Same, didn't even have to wake up for anything this morning but still got up early.

 No.667

Mine went all fuk'd up after NYE. It eventually led to some form of a polyphasic pattern where I slept 3 hours in the evening and another 3 after midnight. I got used to it after a week or so and holy shit was it great for a few days. I actually felt somewhat refreshed after waking up which was new.
But I couldn't keep up with the cycle and now I'm doomed. I sleep 3-6 hours per day and feel like I'm about to collapse and die any second.

 No.789

Everything is going so well except this. I go to sleep early enough, that isn't the problem.

The problem is I can't wake up when I want. I went to sleep at 12 yesterday and woke up at 4 pm today, as you can imagine, that fucked up my productivity for today and it will no doubt impact how long it will take for me to fall asleep tonight

Finally managed to make myself go to bed at 11, got up at half 8. Feels fucking great, i've already accomplished more this morning than I have the past 2 weeks. Gonna have a cold shower in a minute to enhance these good feels

 No.1486

I've a crazy sleep schedule but it's fucked the other way. Some days I go to bed at 6-7pm and wake up around 2-3am. I love it whenever I do it. Always feeling rested because I can wake up whenever I want, and the early morning hours when nobody's awake are really peaceful. Need to do this more.

>>852
Good job man! Just remember to stay on track! Make these next 2 weeks as productive as that morning and surprise yourself at the progress.

Any easy way to restart your natural sleeping pattern is fasting 16 hours before the time you want to wake up

I have used f.lux for years, but just now have turned it down to incandescent and slow transition. I am also in the process of jailbreaking my iPad and putting it on there. I use my iPad in bed before I go to sleep so f.lux on there is a must.

Thanks, my friend!

this the easiest sleep schedule I tried it for a moth an than realized that the society just can't make this hpappenn , gosh I'd like to live in japan were work naps are promoted

 No.1788

I've completely fucked up my routines. But the general pattern is that I sleep at noon and am wake at late evening, night and early morning. I've tried to fix this by staying up during day but it's fucking difficult. Well, I guess I have to really fix this as my summer job requires me to go to work before 7 am. It's a pain in the ass to have different natural cycle than the normalfaggot one. Fuck this gay earth.

 No.1789

>>1788
You can reset it naturally by fasting for 16 hours before you want to wake up, and when you do wake up eat a big breakfast and preferably also exercise, that should pretty much fix it.

 No.1790

File: 1427212157059.jpg (52.1 KB, 616x519, 616:519, 1415792893173.jpg)

A lot of people when trying to change their sleeping schedule will go at it by changing both their bedtime and waketime. Say they wanna get up at 6, so they're in bed by 10. This rarely works.

Instead, only change your WAKEtime. If you wanna get up at 6, set your alarm for 6 and get up then. That night, just go to bed whenever you get sleepy. After a couple days of transition you'll be set. This is the ideal method to reprogram your sleep schedule.

Additionally, sleeping in this way (controlled waketime, variable bedtime) often actually leads to you requiring less sleep. Since you're only going to bed when you're tired, whether that's 8pm or midnight, and always getting up at the same time, then you'll only be getting as much sleep as your body requires. No more, no less, no wasted time.

Also, stay off computers and phones before bed, Preferably an hour, but even thirty minutes makes a noticeable difference. But if you're still working on breaking your internet/computer addiction, use f.lux on your PC and Twilight on your android. There's probably equivalent options for Apple products.

 No.1808

For FOSSfags there's always Redshift, which is probably in your distro's repositories (unlike f.lux for Linux). It may require a little .conf editing but is good to go after that point.

As a NEET, the only time I've ever had a respectable sleeping pattern is when I got my Nook and was reading non-stop. I could fall asleep during the daytime even if I spent an hour or two reading. So grab a book or an e-ink reader (tablets don't count, they have the same problems as computer monitors) and find something interesting. Cuckchan /lit/ has a good wiki for recommended reading (http://4chanlit.wikia.com/wiki/Recommended_Reading). For e-reader fags, just grab some .epub files on libgen.org for interesting looking books and give them a shot. It won't make you feel bad to drop free e-books as opposed to a book you paid money for.

This is what helped me:
>don't try to stay awake longer to fix your sleep, go to bed early
>completely cut off caffeine
>plan your bed and wake up time and keep up the routine
>when you wake up have a big meal, your body will want to wake up for food
>reduce the sugar intake late at night
>use bed only for sleeping and sex, you are not allowed to lay down
>few hours before sleep go running, exhaust yourself (don't do it within 1 hours before bed, running spikes your energy temporarily)

30 minutes before you go to bed:
>lower your room temperature
>open windows for some fresh air
>turn off computer, tv…
>just before you go to bed drink 3 glasses of water
>listen to some relaxing music or white noise

If that doesn't work after some attempts, then take some melatonin before sleep or go to doctor for something stronger.

Some people suggest power naps, but it really depends on the person. I can't take them, tried countless of times and only fucked my sleep more.

I can too recommend f.lux and twilight, computer screens normally keep me awake but this helps greatly.

It's 6pm and I'm eating breakfast. And I usually felt great with 6-8h of sleep but now I mope around fatigued after 12. How do I fix this?

I tried to stay up until next day but it just screwed my schedule up even more. Is it a viable option to just keep taking in coffee till I get past the worst part? I don't have the time or patience to fix this gradually and waking up in the afternoon feels like pic related. I have no trouble falling asleep, I just can't wake up anymore no matter how many alarm clocks I place around my room.

 No.3294

Controlling your brain so that you can force yourself to sleep is a skill I somehow developed in high school. Basically, you need to force your brain to slow down. Meditation and emptying your brain of thoughts helps a ton. Find something that works for you.

 No.3296

>>3283

You might have sleep apnea, if you don't, probably just not eating enough. Try coffee.

>>3294

>Meditation

Buddhism is vitriolically anti-intellectual, what with its endless talk of 'unlearning' and 'only the present moment existing' and 'learning to stop to think' and 'real awareness' and 'real understanding' and 'real reality' being only accessible through 'meditation' or other populistically easy behaviour, accomplishable by anyone, such as 'dedicating yourself fully to the task at hand'. The importance of 'dedicating yourself to the task at hand', which Buddhists stress, while unfalsifiably undeniable, implicitly (ever implicitly–Buddhism is inherently implicit) teaches you to form a separate, delusional mental class, mental distinction, according to which everything that you might learn from textbooks on math or science or other subjects is 'not as real / not as true as the unutterable, incommunicable, "ultimate" truth of being in the moment, of participating in the "real reality beyond the words"'. It is not unlike what 'psychedelics' cause. The formation of this delusion in the brain is what Zen calls enlightenment. The formation of the cancerous conviction that 'I understood deeply, and I mean like DEEPLY, that thinking != doing', that in reality refers to nothing. For a brain/a mind to be non-cancerous, it needs to contain no such delusions, and instead exclusively contain objective knowledge, such as the knowledge that 'my body exists in such or such location' or 'if a brain contains a certain belief, it produces so-and-so many certain chemicals' or that a certain kind of distribution is defined by a mean and a SD (or whatever it is).

http://sleepyti.me/

This websites helps you to calculate the time you should fall asleep(so you should go to bed15 minutes before this time, and no computer/caffeine etc. one hour before this of course) in order to prevent being woken up in a SWS phase which would make you feel like shit, even if you slept longer.

Also consider opening up you blinds a bit to make the sun light shine into your room. This will also help you get up.

I personally try to sleep nine hours, never less than six if I have a lot to do.

 No.3315

I usually go to sleep at like 7am nowadays. Takes me like an hour and a half to fall asleep like wtf man.

I have to wait until I'm exhausted to go to bed.

>You might have sleep apnea

How could I know. I am really fatigued at times though. I keep yawning at the gym and it's hard to lift heavy things when you feel like collapsing into a bed. I eat relatively well nowadays. I guess I'll just get tests done or whatever if this persists. I'd just want to feel fresh and energetic for once.

Coffee is a hit or miss really, usually it just makes me dizzy, anxious and more tired. Not when it's late tho, not sure why.

>>3315

Do you exercise? It should help you fall asleep. And you should stay off your electronics a while before going to bed.
