because people, without hope, cant go on.

all those people that decided to off themselves?, cause they have no hope that their lives will get better, they believe that its impossible to make their lives better.

miracles (fake or not) give that last bit of hope people hang onto , because usually miracles help people overcome the impossible,
people that believe in miracles would keep strugling in hard times HOPING that a miracle will come to them.

so, probably, people fake miracles to keep spirits up i suppose.
