Tajikistan shaves beards of 13000 men and shuts down hijab stores

https://archive.is/WrXfX

In an attempt to fight radical Islam, Tajikistan police shaved the beards of nearly 13,000 men. They also shut down 160 shops selling traditional Islamic attire. Also, they asked 1,700 women to stop wearing the hijab. These actions were taken in the southwest Khatlon region, which borders Afghanistan.

President Imomali Rakhmon is known for his strong opposition to religious extremism. Between 1992 and 1997, 50,000 to 100,000 people were killed due to a civil war between the loyalists and the Islamists. Rakhmon believes the current rising extremism to be a foreign influence.

In Tajikistan, children under 18 have been banned from mosques. Hijabs are banned in public educational institutions. Last Spetember, the Supreme Court banned the country's only Islamist political party. 90% of the population are Muslim and several hundred are believed to be in the ISIS.

The nearby Xinjiang province of China has also taken similar measures to fight Islamic extremism.

There are a lot of Muslims here but there has never been a proper terrorist attack. Though it might be just good luck, I'm sure Nazarbayev has played a big part in giving no reason for any Muslims to radicalise by supporting large mosques with a community role but opposing small ones that would be more likely to isolate themselves and get radical. Freedom of religion and freedom of speech are important but I have no problem with the fact that if someone says he's going to kill the president or bomb a mall or something, he will be arrested and allegedly tortured because that's the kind of shit that no one should say unless they mean it and if they do, then they deserve to get the shit treatment for being little shitheads.

Forcefully shaving the bears of men and not letting women wear whatever they want is pretty silly and pointless, what they would be better off doing is focusing the people's views into a hopeful future instead of a shit tier past that gives them a reason to think things are still shit. It's true that Tajikistan is still a kind of gommunist shithole but at least they're not Uzbekistan. Their president clearly isn't based and there's room to complain, but clinging to shit tier gommunism boligies is only going to make things worse and give the Muslims that are already radicalising for no reason an actual reason to get radicalised, in their mind at least.

It's pretty good, there's always been a lot of variety and it's an important part of the national identity to have freedom of religion, etc. though there are some restrictions on being an official member of some minority religions like Sikhism or Zoroastrianism especially in small towns, because there are official requirements for the number of people necessary to register to an organised religion. Technically it means those religious groups lack recognition and are not legible for any support from other organisations or the government, but in practice it doesn't always go so black and white.

Some people say that members of minority religious groups are oppressed and denied services, etc. and are treated like criminals for their beliefs but I personally haven't heard of anything like that happening and I was pretty publicly an edgy Satanist when I was 15-20. :^) Then again it's perfectly possible that the reason I didn't get any shit for being all "hail Satan" is that no one took me seriously enough and I didn't try to get official recognition for Satanism and instead was officially not part of any religion. I guess some paranoid conspiracy theorists would call it oppression, that the Satanist minority which is quite large compared to most other countries is not even acknowledged to exist by anyone and are typically very secretive about it, also when I wanted to go to Lisakovsk to go check out the giant pentagram nearby some faggots told me not to go there if I was going to dress all edgy in metal band shirts and long leather jacket with camo pants because the locals wouldn't like it. :^) So I decided not to go, still haven't but I don't dress edgy anymore, though soon it might not be suspicious at all because there are plans to make it a tourist attraction along with other geoglyphs. Another part is that I feel like if I go there and it turns out to be disappointing, I'd be quite disappointed.

I have heard of Muslims having to get extra cautions and check-ups if they're going to Saudi Arabia for the pilgrimage though, personally I think it's not discrimination because if they're not going to become terrorists they have no reason to be worried about background checks and shit. And Christians are just like everywhere else, being paranoid about "the gay jew invasion" and stupid shit like that. Unfortunately Scientology and Mormonism are gaining followers… I'm so thankful that Scientology is seen for what it is, a cult and scam, but it still has some fucking followers and nothing is being done about it because they're not "radicals" and I suppose that's fine. I wish Mormonism was also seen that way but it isn't, then again morons don't generally directly brainwash and hurt people IIRC so maybe that's why. Tengrism is not widespread but the president supports its restoration, not very actively and there's some controversy if he's a Tengrist himself or not (he did the hajj and many take that to mean he's a Muslim, others say he only did it to pay respect to the large number of Muslims in Kazakhstan) and there isn't really any visible Tengrism anywhere but it's recognised anyway. Religious people of other countries sometimes say almost all Kazakhs are atheists, it's simply not true but might seem so because we don't make a big deal out of religion. Buddhists are based like elsewhere, not that many of them but more than neighbouring countries. Some people say there are actually many times more Buddhists than the number of people officially identifying as Buddhists, which is probably true.

Don't let shady Gulf Arabs fund equally shady "moderate" figures, closely spy on mosques, shut down radical leaders as soon as they show up and slowly let the country modernize.

There, the radicalism problem just got smaller.

This shows a very clear understanding of radicalisation and particularly of islam. It's shifting muslims from segregating themselves and toward nationalism. The single reason people are drawn in by extremists is because they have no national identity. That's why many second generation muslim immigrants from western countries like the uk get sucked in so easily. They haven't integrated and feel a need for identity which they find solely in their religion which has very violent and extreme values within it, contrary to the state. All that's left is for someone to find them and say "come join us, we practice true islam" and a terrorist is made. By stopping self segregation the youth can find a national identity outside their religion and radical islam ends.

More or less yes. Most people in the region live in yurts, trailers and shacks along rivers and mountain slopes. Only few towns in west of the region are really Muslim, all the scatterings are I think shaman and Buddhist that only have very little Islamic influence and in the east there is probably none.

But we actually have a unique blue shamanism in the vast region from Altai to Uvs but it's dying with the old people. I only heard of one shaman near my town, 100km away… It's sad but only one group of conservatives have come to document this tradition and local dialects, they only spoke to a few people and I can't find any useful information online. In fact there is barely nothing online and it looks like the conservatives did not publish their research or only in physical form… There is only one even relevant match that I could find online and it's some random person of blue shamanism from Mongolia, http://amantuuh.socanth.cam.ac.uk/search/m_view_person.php?Person=990073 but there is nothing. It says there is an interview of this man but there doesn't seem to be one… Why do the conservatives do this?
