It's pretty good, there's always been a lot of variety and it's an important part of the national identity to have freedom of religion, etc. though there are some restrictions on being an official member of some minority religions like Sikhism or Zoroastrianism especially in small towns, because there are official requirements for the number of people necessary to register to an organised religion. Technically it means those religious groups lack recognition and are not legible for any support from other organisations or the government, but in practice it doesn't always go so black and white.
Some people say that members of minority religious groups are oppressed and denied services, etc. and are treated like criminals for their beliefs but I personally haven't heard of anything like that happening and I was pretty publicly an edgy Satanist when I was 15-20. :^) Then again it's perfectly possible that the reason I didn't get any shit for being all "hail Satan" is that no one took me seriously enough and I didn't try to get official recognition for Satanism and instead was officially not part of any religion. I guess some paranoid conspiracy theorists would call it oppression, that the Satanist minority which is quite large compared to most other countries is not even acknowledged to exist by anyone and are typically very secretive about it, also when I wanted to go to Lisakovsk to go check out the giant pentagram nearby some faggots told me not to go there if I was going to dress all edgy in metal band shirts and long leather jacket with camo pants because the locals wouldn't like it. :^) So I decided not to go, still haven't but I don't dress edgy anymore, though soon it might not be suspicious at all because there are plans to make it a tourist attraction along with other geoglyphs. Another part is that I feel like if I go there and it turns out to be disappointing, I'd be quite disappointed.
I have heard of Muslims having to get extra cautions and check-ups if they're going to Saudi Arabia for the pilgrimage though, personally I think it's not discrimination because if they're not going to become terrorists they have no reason to be worried about background checks and shit. And Christians are just like everywhere else, being paranoid about "the gay jew invasion" and stupid shit like that. Unfortunately Scientology and Mormonism are gaining followers… I'm so thankful that Scientology is seen for what it is, a cult and scam, but it still has some fucking followers and nothing is being done about it because they're not "radicals" and I suppose that's fine. I wish Mormonism was also seen that way but it isn't, then again morons don't generally directly brainwash and hurt people IIRC so maybe that's why. Tengrism is not widespread but the president supports its restoration, not very actively and there's some controversy if he's a Tengrist himself or not (he did the hajj and many take that to mean he's a Muslim, others say he only did it to pay respect to the large number of Muslims in Kazakhstan) and there isn't really any visible Tengrism anywhere but it's recognised anyway. Religious people of other countries sometimes say almost all Kazakhs are atheists, it's simply not true but might seem so because we don't make a big deal out of religion. Buddhists are based like elsewhere, not that many of them but more than neighbouring countries. Some people say there are actually many times more Buddhists than the number of people officially identifying as Buddhists, which is probably true.
