Well, that's comparing eggs to elephants.

Kosovo is de facto real but de jure ambiguous.

"Western Sahara" is de facto as real as fairies but diplomats and cartographers pretend it exists.

/int/ should start a micronation there and make our economy based around exporting energy. we would set up a shitload of solar panels and just sell that shit.

I feel like everyone's really down on this micronation idea, but I think we could get this off the ground. /pol/ and /leftypol/ have their own ideas, but who's to say we can't? Land somewhere in the middle of the Sahara's gotta be cheap- we could make a country where the memes flow freely.

Bir Tawil is the only truly unclaimed land you can get nowadays.

There are also some specks of land in the Danube, but Liberland tried taking one of them and failed.

 No.319632

>>319625

Bir Tawil is inhabited by some nomads though, and claimed by at least two micronations.

 No.319634

>>319632

Bring in guns. Try to negotiate with the nomads and perhaps even integrate them.

If that fails, settlers can still defend themselves.

Also, other micronations are irrelevant. If they don't have any presence there, they have no impact at all on the establishment of new micronations.

 No.319637

>>319634

How are you going to smuggle the guns past the border security? Bir Tawil is landlocked, by definition you will have to either go from the Egyptian side or from the Sudanese side. On the Sudanese side, you will almost certainly be shot on sight as either an Egyptian spy or as a terrorist. On the Egyptian side, you will be shot on sight as a Sudanese terrorist.

The solution, you may think, is to get permits. Say you're human rights workers going to save the lives of sick nomads or something. Great, you get in — but your guns? Do you really think they'll let you keep your guns? Maybe if you're only using them for protection from terrorists, I can see they'd let one of you keep one… How about if you say you're UN peacekeepers? But peacekeepers from what? There is no conflict there, but both countries expect the other to start one at any moment. How will you avoid that? By crossing the border illegally? Great, good for you if you can do it; I don't doubt you could, but how will you move around if you're going to be shot on sight by almost everyone you could possibly come across? How will you get new migrants? Sure a few migrations could happen, it would go unnoticed… but once you start building something, once you no longer live in tents or cars or shit — the Egyptian military will start itching. There is an international agreement that forbids anything being built in Bir Tawil, and violating that agreement would bring not only the Egyptian military on your ass, but the Sudanese one as well, and in all likelihood the UN would brand you as a threat to modern society. Then what? You'll fight against two major armies with guys up in the thousands, with what? A few dozen spergmasters with one gun each? Let's say you go guerilla, yeah? Okay, yeah. You kill a few Egyptians and a few faggots from Sudan. Now you pissed them off. They'll both bring tanks. And you think the unarmed nomads occasinoally passing through will take your side? Why? They've been illegally crossing those borders for years and both governments have turned a blind eye because they're harmless… now you took that away from them, and you expect them to pick up arms and join you on your ridiculous quest to protect the memes? Seriously? They'll also want to kill you, and it's their backyard. Even if your sperg army of gorilla experts was a thousand men strong, could you really stand up against guys that have lived there for ages, all the way back to the time when the Sahara wasn't a desert? I mean I know you'd probably have more guns than them and maybe even more manpower, but man… really?

 No.319640

>>319637

You have a point. Bir Tawil is too hard to get to, too hard to turn into an economically profitable area and too hard to even hold it with military strength.

But would it be possible to make a Sealand-style platform in international waters and live on it?

 No.319641

>>319640

With enough money, it wouldn't be implausible. The issue is remaining self-sufficient. You'd need the space to grow your food/some way to do it from the ocean, a water purification system, a power generator of some sort, and some other shit, all of which requires a bunch of dosh.

I'd prefer to keep it simple: move to a remote cuntside town, get the locals to agree with the micronation project and declare independence.

 No.319644

>>319641

A bored bilionaire could do it.

I guess a prime spot would be the North Sea, close to civilization. Build some wind farms for energy, grow some of the food in local greenhouses, make your micronation well-known and profit from tourism.

If you're rich enough, maybe it would even be possible to turn your nation into a tax haven, but that could anger a lot of people on the mainland.

Fuck's sake this is just /namibia/ all over again. Why do you autists always insist on colonizing some desert shithole? It would be infinitely more feasible to just set up in some isolated forest in America or Canada. Canada is more plausible than the US, but you'd probably get your shit wrecked still. If you show up in the middle of the woods and cut down a bunch of trees, some people with guns are probably gonna show up to stop you.

Yeah I reckon if anything the US/Canada would be some of the worst governments to deal with, if trying to do this sort of thing.

Just look at that bloomin ranch thing in Oregon where there's all the standoffs and whatnot, the government's trying to take the ranch because muh bird sanctuary. Now imagine that, but with no legal foot to stand on because you cut some forest and have no "proper" property rights. El Presidente would just blow them to kingdom come.

>>320120

Sure are m8. I prefer the desert settlement ideas to the whole "let's settle this tiny island" ideas. Some atoll/island in the middle of bumfuck ocean nowhere seems a lot more isolated and shitty than a desert imho. Guess it would come down to preference for a lot of people though. With modern tech it'd be possible to settle some of the bigger islands in the pacific. Expensive as all hell for shipping and transport to them, though.

speaking of interesting island people:

Exactly. And when it comes to defence, in the desert you can protect yourself, but on an island you're a sitting duck.

 No.320645

>>320582

The Brazilian savanna or Amazon are good starts. The land is cheap and many whites are getting filthy rich in the last few decades by mass-producing soy and other products in their large properties. Both spaces- Cerrado and Amazon- have their advantages and disadvantages: compared to the savanna, the Amazon has worser roads, harsher climate and is harder to clear for occupation, but the forest can be cut down for a profit and there are more minerals underground.

Exporting anything you produce, though, is really hard, as all you have is river transport and some crater-filled highways.

Also, gun laws are awful, taxes are astronomical, bureaucratic barriers are labyrinthic and can only be cleared by generous bribes, nationalists will hate you simply because you're there, "social movements" can invade your land and the government will crush you at the first sign of rebellion with full support from the state-loving population.
