Hinduism does not ban alcohol. It places some restrictions like not drinking on holy days. There is nothing explicitly banning alcohol in Hindu texts. Even gods have been mentioned drinking. However, some medieval and modern gurus and religious leaders didn't take alcohol and prohibited it among their followers. So, most drinkers are blue-collars and westernised people, others don't drink. They consider alcohol a tamasic food or "evil" food.
But, some sects of Hinduism, like those of Shiva, still practice ritual intoxication. They usually take hashish though.
Jainism is a splinter-off of Hinduism. They take the concept of "ahimsa" or non-violence to extreme lengths. They mourn when they step on an ant. Some of them wear masks on their faces, in case they inhale and kill some poor dust-mite. They don't drink because they believe that microbes are killed in the fermentation process. They are kinda like Jews, they have extreme political, religious and economical powers. They have been campaigning to get alcohol and meat banned in various places.
Most of the Buddhists in India are Theravada which prohibits unnecessary sensual enjoyments. So, they also don't drink.
Sikhism is a warrior religion, which states that the warrior must already be ready for battle. So, they are not supposed to drink too. But, many Sikhs are blue-collar workers or soldiers, so they drink. They have this reputation of being big drinkers in most states. But, I have actually not been to their state.
