 No.5044

Been some discussion about roads on 11.0. Considering that there won't be any cars, I thin we should prized establishing a rail network instead.

Could we agree that railways, being a collaborative project between towns/nations, aren't to be attacked by server players (unless a railway section runs through an area under war, then by all means). I also think this would be more beneficial for RP given the 2015 time period, and that it removes the requirement for warps to be implemented. Let me know what your opinions are.

*prioritized

Also, I'm not saying that there shouldn't be any road networks. They're great as a cheaper alternative to railways

I'm all for a rail network. The question is if we will be able to have claims touching each other so there isn't one chunk of rails unprotected.

I was thinking about that, either an admin rule that railways can't be attacked unless in war could be implemented, or tracks could be constructed underground as subways to be more secure. For now, a rail system relies on trust, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Sorry ISIS, you should know that one of the five pillars of Islam is that charitable giving must be distributed the community from which it was taken from :^)

 No.5050

destroying infastructure and transport (roads, rails, bridges etc) is a key part in modern warfare. Taking out an enemies railways disables them being able to travel to attack you or get away as quickly

Also im sure nations could make a collaborative effort to establish roads between their nations to allow for easy transport.

For now we know nothing of the faction/towny system. Towny can be used with 0 unclaimed chunks between cities as far as I know.

I used to be on a total buildfag serb and there was an international rail going pretty much everywhere. It was fun to build.

 No.5053

Just talk to the country you want to have a road with. Or try to create some "Infrastructure Protection Pact" top kek which would take care of securing roads and railways.

 No.5722

Railways are not answer. They can be easily griefed. Been talking with a few lads in America who are good with redstone. Let's make airports with working airplanes. Much easier to maintain and protect. I'll set up a prototype airplane and airport in NYC and then anyone who wants to be part of the air network can talk to me and I'll help.

Here's an example of an airplane. The ones I'll set up in NYC will probably be a bit smaller though.

>>5722

>airports with working airplanes

>that fucking noise

>can't change altitude

10/10 m8 can't wait for all my hard work to crash into a mountain since I can't fly higher/lower

 No.5732

>>5722

I built a few of those before and they're not only server laggers but also have a tendency to get fucked up really easily, and they only fly in a straight line. There's nothing wrong with tracks, at least within nations.

 No.5735

>>5732

>>5728

By all means tracks within the same nation are much more simpler and convienent. However when we're talking longer distances, like trans-continential transport, railways would be impossible to maintain. They can beasily griefed by shitters, shutting down the entire network. If we're gonna globalize like its 2015 Airplanes are simply more reliable.

They may only move in a straight line but air networks are much harder to destroy. So maybe we don't use airports for everything, but we can set up airports for Trans-atlantic transport from Europe to America. Or from Northern Europe to South Africa. Or The west to Asia.

 No.5738

>>5735

Underground ones would be less easily griefed and we can always start an anti shitter coalition

 No.5739

>>5735

>simply more reliable.

1. The build is way more complex and harder to obtain materials (the average player, especially new ones, don't just have a stack of redstone blocks on them)

2. You can't change altitudes, if you see a mountain, say bye-bye to airplane

3. You can't stop the airplane unless it hits a solid object (which, if you've read the above point, isn't good)

4. That fucking noise it makes

5.As pointed out previously, lags up the server

6. Large wingspan makes it easier to clip objects (see point 2 for consequence of that)

7. You literally have no control over the thing

8. Easy to get robbed or destroyed by other players

9. It's ugly as fugg.

etc.
