I'm working on Towny's claim and nation bonuses chunk progression.

Left table and orange chart is standard chunk progression limit for nationless towns dependant on number of residents.

Right table / teal chart is a bonus Town gets from being in nation, dependant on number of citizens the nation has.

The premise here is to discourage small, nationless towns (while still allowing them to play) and encourage forming/joining nations.

What do you say?

and this is old progression, for comparison.

 No.5364

Yeah, suppose we got 5 towns, 4 residents each in the same nation.

Each of them will have 312 chunks to spare.

Maybe I should decrease nation bonus a bit since it's shared among all towns.

Anyway, I'm going to sleep. I'll check on this thread tomorrow.

Sorry for the silly question (new player) but if a 1 man town joined a 4 man nation would he get 18 chunks (town limit + nation bonus) or just 2 chunks?

 No.5366

>>5365

>if a 1 man town joined a 4 man nation

That would be a 5 man nation then.

According to example in OP, he would get 2 claims from being in a 1-man town and 25 claims from being in a 5-man nation. That totals to 27 chunks to claim.

Doesn't that kind of defeat the goal of having fewer one man towns? If this is the advantage given by being in a nation, we can expect 1 man towns to join nations and remain 1 man only.

Or in the worst case scenario we could have 5 one man towns create a nation and each town gets 26 claims.

That sounds really broken. I think the nation bonus should be nerfed

 No.5368

>be 4 man town

>12 chunks max

>form a nation, only town in that nation

>now 28 chunks

yes?

I think it's a nice change.

Nationless, 1 man town should be completely unprofitable and joining a town or making it larger should give that large advantage so players will just be forced to grow(adding new residents) or becoming a part of the world's politics (joining a nation) instead of being peculiar settlement, even though joining a nation creates a threat of becoming vulnerable to invasions.

 No.5370

>>5368

I guess so

Nice to see that admins(or maybe the admin) actually thought it over - nation bonus is very high, much higher than just bonus from adding new residents, so making a nationless town(even if it's large) is almost pointless.

 No.5371

Aye, sounds great. It'll encourage people to join nations and become a part of politics rather than hiding away.

 No.5372

>>5368

It looks like it'll work that way

 No.5373

>>5371

This. That's a really good change.

 No.5374

>>5372

>>5370

nice tbh

 No.5375

Also

>>5362

max claims for a single town in a nation is 420

DUDE

 No.5376

>>5370

The nation bonus seems dangerously high

What's stopping this>>5367

from happening?

 No.5377

Sounds good to me tbh

I briefly considered a situation where a nation was composed of entirely small towns in a big nation. Then I realised each of these towns would be nigh defenceless and would just get picked off systematically in the same way the AAU fell in X.

Monsquaz youve done it again.

 No.5378

>>5377

I hadn't considered that

Well I'm willing to try this tbh

 No.5379

>>5367

Yes but with the current configuration a 1 man town could create its own nation and get 26 claims anyway. Theres no downside, and at least it means shitters might actually interact with members of their own nation even if they do what you described.

 No.5380

>>5376

As >>5377 said, it just leaves them defenseless. Either way, it still gets them more active in the politics of /int/ than 100 neutral one-man towns.

 No.5381

>>5379

It looks to me that a nation with <4 players doesn't get any bonus

So a 1 man nation still only gets 1 claim

 No.5382

dude this is WAY too low tbh

 No.5383

>>5382

It's significantly lower, but that might be a good thing

There are people who genuinely considered naming their towns England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales because they knew those few towns would be enough to claim the entire british isles.

 No.5384

>town of 5 people

>18 town claims + 25 nation claims =43 claims

that's a bit low aint it?

 No.5385

>>5384

A bit, but the map is also kinda small

 No.5386

>>5381

Exactly so in X:

>1 man town makes nation

>26 claims

in XI:

>1 man nation gets 2 claims

but

>nation of big towns get much larger amounts of claims

its perfect

 No.5387

>>5386

That sounds good then

 No.5388

>>5362

nigger what is this

>2015

>120 max

make it as it used to be just discourage one man towns thats all

 No.5389

So if a 20 man town with no nation makes its own 1 town nation, it triples its claim size essentially?

 No.5390

>>5383

The plan is to do it because

Map too small, naming a town after an actual town would have it encompass a load of other towns

Relatively few relevant cities in UK

Allows for greater fitting-in: You'll be happy in England if you're English, not in Hull if you're from literally anywhere other than Hull

Concentrates town numbers together too, rather have a 10 man town called England than a 5 2 man towns with random names

 No.5391

Also

Small claims -> less swathes of claimed and unused land -> less room to build in -> land used more efficiently -> modern, urban sprawl

good idea all round

 No.5393

>>5389

A 20 man town shouldn't be without a nation in the first place tbh

 No.5394

>>5390

I understand

In the past system it worked pretty well and it might work again

It's just a bit unprecedented

 No.5401

>>5393

"Helvetia"

 No.5403

>>5401

…was a mistake

 No.5408

>>5394

Chien doesn't mind tbh lad

 No.5411

>>5388

I think he will do the further progression.

It should stop at ~50, we have 30+ cities almost every iteration tbh.

 No.5427

Be 1 man town right

> join 20 man nation for claims bonus

>reclaim

> leave nation

Tbh this will just happen as it happened in every iteration. And we need like 300 claims to make a half decent city

 No.5439

>>5427

Is there a way in Towny to disallow overclaimed towns?

 No.5504

>>5439

I think there is an upper limit that town can claim, regardless of bonuses.

 No.5513

>>5504

it is ? I saw a lot of ridiculously overclaimed towns eg helvetia osheim

 No.5541

>>5439

>>5504

He means like when a town claims to its limit, then the limit drops and they still have the claims

 No.5542

>>5541

In factions this isnt an issue as you just get unclaimed
