I just thought it would be epic as hell if a one note vocoder was used pretending it's the camera itself talking to them..

I don't know exactly how to do this but maybe soundflower could help routing audio ins/outs from a software (live option) or even recording some key sentences

how do i play music/use the mic on the cameras? can i do it on server push or do i have to use active x on ie??

ActiveX and IE. I think the iPad app also works iirc.

You have to enable unsigned ActiveX controls (well, set them to prompt) in IE's internet settings. Go to Security, Custom, then the ActiveX section.

You can pipe sound through the camera in a few different ways. Some programs let you pipe the output to the input rather than your speakers and so on fairly easily.

A ghetto way to do it is to turn off sound observation on the camera, then play your music loud in your headphones, put the headphones up to the mic, and record. If you have earbuds this works pretty well, because the sound is so targeted.

When you use IE ActiveX, make sure to reboot the camera when you're done, because it's unlikely you're using any other security methods if you are watching video, receiving audio and transmitting audio halfway across the world without problems.

Even if you just use the ActiveX mode for listening to audio, it adds a lot to the experience…

It would be well worth compiling a comprehensive tutorial and stickying it, everything from "What Are IP Cams?" and "Where do I find them?" to "How do I access them?" and "Why is it a bad idea to spook people and ruin the fun for everyone else?"

I'd say it would grow the board if you explained and introduced it all properly and got people playing ball with the boards code of conduct.

It really doesn't have to be no fun allowed, you just don't want retards attracting unwanted attention and ruining other peoples fun.

I dunno if it's a good idea to play music over the cam because people quickly seem to immediately pull the plug on the cam and potentially password protect them, which limits accessibility and ends the fun.

Though I did get a hispanic family to become furious at the manager of a store because I blasted Danny Brown - I will.
I also made a lady panic with a Duke nukem soundboard.

To play music over the camera I just set my phone to the lowest volume and hold its speaker right up to my microphone.
It works surprisingly good since the audio quality of those cameras is pretty shit already.
