Quran speaks about virgins and sensual pleasures, lovers in Paradise, it doesn't say 72, that's where the Hadiths, the Sunnah come in play.

"We have created them a (new) creation, And made them virgins, Lovers, friends, For those on the right hand;" Qur'an 56:35-38

but are you a Quranist? You don't accept Hadith?

It's a bad idea in Islam to do as the Christians and take a single verse or two and claim it as truth.

Christans say, "See here in book:verse lies the truith!" We must avoid that way of thinking because it brings confusion and falsehood.

Where you say, "Read 56:35-38"; I say, "Read Surah Al-Waqi'ah". Do not lose sight of the forest for the trees.

The sunnah you've mentioned is part of a series and cannot be taken as an individual description. The Prophet(صلى الله عليه و سلم) was giving an extremely fantastical description of Paradise, not a literal one.
