Discuss all things anime here, and post friendly anime pics of Muslims.

Also since I feel myself slowly becoming a weeaboo do you guys know of any good halal animes or any animes featuring Muslims?

As long as it's not pornographic, there's really nothing wrong with anime. If it becomes an obsession that takes the mind off of Allah, then a break from it is strongly advised.

It's basically harmless, though.

I don't know of any Muslim themed anime, but I'm sure they exist.

Islam is a very small minority in Japan, so there isn't much of an audience for anime. There have been, from time to time, Muslim characters in anime/manga, but they're very rare.

Can you give me examples? And are they shown in a good light, or is it the bad stereotypes?

Off the top of my head:

Muhammad Avdol from JoJo not outright stated but is an Egyptian

Mohamed Tabarsi from Shaman King also not outright stated but Shaman King is heavily influenced with religion

The Ishval people in Fullmetal Alchemist are pretty much a proxy of the Palestinians.

Yugo the Negotiator, haven't seen it myself but iirc, the main character actually recites al-Fatihah in one of the episodes.

The setting and main character of Magi is heavily based on the Arabian nights.

On how they're presented:

Avdol was one of the MC's companion and was popular enough that the author had to bring him back after he was killed by an enemy.

There aren't really "evil" guys in Shaman King. The plot is a bit complicated and Tabarsi was part of the "bad guys", per se, but he was still a decent person overall.

Scar is an Ishvalan Terrorist in FMA, but once you progress through the story, you find that a lot of his rage is justified and he become more of an anti-hero.

Magi is a pretty cheerful adventure manga, and a bit similar to Shaman King, people aren't necessarily "evil" and most who are have actual reason as to why they act that way.

A small note on Jojo, there is one scene where the main bad guy, a recently resurrected English vampire who is hiding out in Egypt, was shown reading pages of the Quran, which caused a small hubbub. It was an animation error, normally they would add "exotic" text by copying in pages of already printed materials. So, they copied the Quran into it. iirc, the animation company and the author apologized for the mistake and actually held back on the distribution when they found out about it.

tbh, while I understand and agree about protecting the Sanctity of the Quran, it makes sense in context that the big bad, who enjoys reading, would be reading through the most popular book in Egypt

Plus he's a criminal genius who has a natural talent for manipulating people to further his own ambitions. It makes sense that he would want to familiarize himself with the religious customs of the local population.

anime is haram

(IF ALLAH WAS ON YOUR SIDE, THEN I COULD NOT BAN YOU)

You can't just come in here and say "blah blah blah is haram" without saying why you think it is haram. Some anime might be haram, but as far as I know, all of it isn't.

He was implying he was into popular books, the Quran is the most popular book in the world, even more so then any of the versions of the bible.

Oh I see you banned him (a little harsh of a reaction, but you do your thing because I get you can see stuff we can't, such as past posts)

=BUT=

I was all ready for his response though, he was going to say something like drawing images is haram and I was going to say it's okay (at least from my understanding and research) that cartoons are fine because they are not meant to depict real people and the more abstract the cartoon is the more okay it is. The only thing I found that might count as haram is wasting your time with cartoons/anime when you could be more productive, or that some cartoons/anime that depict haram things or behavior.

We could also turn this thread into a discussion about why certain drawing are okay, cartoons and nature drawings, and certain drawing are bad, real life people and animals. From what I understood it was trying to copy the image something that had a soul? (I could be wrong about that). Or the more realistic it is the more it's trying to copy the actual creation of God.

It's interesting to note that Islam allows toys and dolls and statues of trees but not real life statues of people. There was a hadeith that talked about the angel Gabriel coming to Muhammad and telling him he was not allowed to visit with him when he was around a statue of a person and if he removed the head of the statue it could be counted as a statue of a tree (thus making it abstract) and he could visit him in that place again.

I can't be bothered to deal with people who can't tell the difference between Sunnah and Hadith.

But, I gave him 48 hours. Mostly because it is his one and only post on this board in the entire history of this board. Doesn't bode well.

>I can't be bothered to deal with people who can't tell the difference between Sunnah and Hadith.

All he said was that anime is haram though…

Right … and I'm sure he'd pull the hadith against images out of his ass. But to remind him that hadith aren't necessarily sunnah shouldn't be needed.

If he were Muslim, which he is clearly not.

Anime is not haram by Qur'an or Sunnah, so it is not haram. He came to troll and I can smell a troll like a fart in a car. Give them an inch and they'll think they're a ruler.
