Japanese and Austrailian militaries cooperate
http://ajw.asahi.com/article/behind_news/politics/AJ201511230056
SYDNEY–Foreign and defense ministers of Japan and Australia agreed here to swiftly sign a pact to make cooperation between their armed forces easier.
Full agreement will be sought when Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull visits Japan next month. By signing the treaty, Japan will essentially become a "quasi-ally" with Australia, allowing the Self-Defense Forces to significantly strengthen their ties with the Australian armed forces in various fields, including unit management and equipment. Both Japan and Australia are allied with the United States.
The pact will be Japan's first mutual status of forces agreement, which legally defines how a foreign military force operating in another country is handled. This will determine what local laws the troops will be exempt from, including the handling of accidents and crimes, the movement of military vehicles on public roads and frequencies of radio bandwidths to use during exercises.
Such an agreement will allow for the two armed forces to hold joint exercises and dispatch units for disaster relief purposes. The two nations will be able to conduct joint drills on Japanese territory without the bother of implementing special procedures.
Hey /japan/, the faggots over at /a/ are making a share project against TPP and we would like your help
The fuck's this shit and why should I care?
As you should you the TPP will fuck over pirating and copyright everyfuckingthing.
To counter it we started this, our plan is to hoard shit pre-TPP and then share it around with I2P.
What do I do?
We are still planning shit, so there are four things you can do right now
>hoard shit
To share it afterwards. Manga, japanese series, korean cartoons, anything goes.
>download I2P
Might as well get used to it now
>Suggest shit and help in the board
>spread it around
We need as many anons on this as possible, contact other small boards and chans.
Why I2P?
Because it's TOR on steroids. It's safer than TOR, it has more features(such as torrenting) and it's newer meaning that is isn't called pedo net 2.0 yet.
Why bother, TPP won't do shit
Odds are it will, but even if it doesn't there will be a new TPP. Companies are "losing money" with all these pirates, do you think they won't try to fuck us over each chance they get? We are now doing what we already should have had: preparing for the worst. Even if nothing happens next year, what's to say that it wont happen the year after?
Why /japan/?
Nips are already getting fucked by copyright laws, the TPP will only fuck you further, so we are hoping this will help the nips browsing this board as much as the rest of us. Also pls, bring doujinshis.
Japan Gender Inequality
http://ajw.asahi.com/article/behind_news/social_affairs/AJ201511190045
Japan ranked 101st among 145 countries with regard to gender equality in a new survey, up three notches from last year, but still the worst of all Group of Seven industrialized nations.
The Global Gender Gap Report 2015 was released Nov. 19 by the World Economic Forum, known for its Davos meeting in Switzerland.
However, the gender gap worsened in Japanese workplaces. That was because the wage disparity widened, even though a higher ratio of women took part in the work force. Although the number of female workers is increasing, many of them are nonregular employees whose wages are kept low.
Hachiko has a faithful feline companion
http://ajw.asahi.com/article/behind_news/social_affairs/AJ201511170003
Hachiko, the faithful Akita dog immortalized in a bronze statue in front of Tokyo's JR Shibuya Station, now has a companion: a live cat
After a while, a man wearing a black T-shirt approached the cat and picked it up in front of puzzled onlookers. He then walked off with it toward a subway entrance at the busy rail hub.
The man, 67, said the cat, a 5-year-old male, is one of about 30 felines he keeps at his home in Tokorozawa, Saitama Prefecture. A huge cat lover since childhood, the man said his collection includes some he has taken in from his neighbors.
In June, the retiree from a Tokyo publishing company began traveling to Shibuya about four times a month, taking one of his cats in a carrier with him. He lets the cat stay at the foot of the statue for about an hour.
“I would like my cat to give comfort to people,” he said, explaining his motivation. “If foreign tourists take pictures of my cat with the statue and post them online, then people who see them may feel like visiting Japan.
Although his efforts to console others have apparently achieved the intended effect, the man's unusual behavior has drawn criticism on the Internet.
Some people posted comments expressing concern about the cat spending so much time in a crowded public space, while others called it outright “animal abuse.”
“I am aware of criticism, but it is only expected that there are pros and cons,” he said. “If there are people who find comfort in the presence of my cat, I would like to continue to bring one.”
Chinese Navy ship spotted near Senkaku Islands
http://the-japan-news.com/news/article/0002559849
The Defense Ministry said Thursday that a Chinese Navy ship was found to have sailed near the Japanese-controlled Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea.
The Dongdiao-class intelligence-gathering ship did not enter Japanese territorial waters around the islands, but repeatedly sailed from east to west and vice versa near Japan’s contiguous zone outside the territorial waters, according to the ministry.
A Chinese ship had never shown such abnormal movements before, it said. The Self-Defense Forces are carefully monitoring the situation, ministry officials said.
The government has informed the Chinese side through diplomatic channels that Tokyo is watching the incident with close attention.

Economy and future.
Greetings /japan/,
I have been watching various videos, and one of them is currently embedded.
I don't know how widespread the knowledge of the subject is but I guess it's better making sure it is than not doing anything.
tl;dw: You should watch it, but the subject is about Japan's change in economy in the last 50 years or so, and how different economical crisis was engineered for those changes to be made.
This is also related to TPP (not the game, the Trans-Pacific "Partnership") where one of the clauses was to allow any asset, land, company, even banks, to be bought by foreign investors. Hopefully you rejected it a few months ago, but they will come back.
With this economy change it's easier to crash it and devalue any assets so that practically all the country can be bought by an external company.
Now I'm not a specialist in economy, I dabble at it, but I've heard about a lot of different events talked in the video and also about the 'finance jackals' buying debts, etc, and since you can more easily read japanese than me, you could check for yourselves about those different points.
Some related subversion tactics can be seen here:
A general presentation of the tactics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gnpCqsXE8g
The same guy talking a bit more about his life and work, related to said subversion tactics https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3qkf3bajd4
I know the subject is heavy and all in english, but at least the main video has japanese subtitles.
I hope that you will spread the word, the more people know about it, the more you as a people can vote the right way, and with chances, some higher-up that can influence things in some way could help also.
I don't want Japan to become like Europe, or Sweden, and when/if I ever visit you guys, I hope that I won't be visiting Africa.
No Nuclear Pro Defense JAPAN
Japan must have strong defensive capabilities to defend the people
>“As the only nation in the world to have suffered a war-time nuclear attack, I have renewed my resolve to play a leading role in pursuing a world without nuclear weapons and maintain the three non-nuclear principles,” Abe said during a ceremony at Nagasaki Peace Park.
>The “three non-nuclear principles” are Japan's long-standing policy of not possessing or producing nuclear arms and not letting others bring them into the country.
>Representatives from 75 countries, including U.S. Ambassador Caroline Kennedy, were among those gathered at the ceremony, where a representative of Nagasaki bomb survivors told the crowd that security legislation introduced by Abe's government goes against the wishes of the survivors and "will lead to war."
>"We cannot accept this," 86-year-old Sumiteru Taniguchi said, after describing in graphic detail his traumatic injuries and how others died in the Aug. 9, 1945, attack on Nagasaki.
>As a bell tolled, they observed a minute of silence at 11:02 a.m., the time when the a U.S. B-29 plane dropped the atomic bomb, killing more than 70,000 people and helping to prompt Japan's World War II surrender. The first atomic bomb in Hiroshima three days earlier killed an estimated 140,000.
>Japan's defense minister triggered a new disagreement over controversial security legislation on Wednesday when he said the bills under consideration by parliament would not rule out the military transporting the nuclear weapons of foreign forces.
>Abe's cabinet adopted a resolution last year reinterpreting the pacifist constitution, drafted by Americans after World War II, to let Japan exercise collective self-defense, or defend an ally under attack.
>The unpopular bills have already passed the lower house, and Abe's ruling bloc has a majority in the upper house as well. But surveys show a majority of voters are opposed to what would be a significant shift in Japan's defense policy.
>Nagasaki Mayor Tomihisa Taue, addressing the same ceremony, noted the "widespread unease" about the legislation, which has passed the lower house of parliament and is now before the upper house.
>"I urge the government of Japan to listen to these voices of unease and concern," Taue said.
Abe protects his people while not allowing disarmament to weaken his proud country.
ITT: 四字熟語
>Yojijukugo (四字熟語?) is a Japanese lexeme consisting of four kanji (Chinese characters). English translations of yojijukugo include "four-character compound", "four-character idiom", "four-character idiomatic phrase", and "four-character idiomatic compound". It is equivalent to the Chinese chengyu.

SJW appropriates, make racist attack on Japanese culture
http://thefederalist.com/2015/07/10/boston-kimono-alarms-culture-crusaders/
The kimono replicas were commissioned by Japan's NHK for the purpose of letting foreigners try them on as part of getting them to know Japanese culture. The kimonos were made by Japanese kimono craftsmen. The idea to use kimonos to introduce Japanese culture overseas is is part of the Japanese government's "Cool Japan" project. http://www.meti.go.jp/policy/mono_info_service/mono/creative/
Japanese are not offended. Only non-Japanese Americans are claiming to be offended. Is it not them who are appropriating Japanese culture?
The people who criticise this event do not know that Japanese made the kimonos, they said things like this:
>White institutions make cheap imitations of a kimono to try on for fun to fuel their foreign fetishes
>The "Kimonos" in these pictures are copycats of the original in the picture (which is completely disrespectful to the artist and the original creator of the kimono), and it looks like a cheap fucking quilt made by someone's half blind grandmother.
These non-Japanese insult the kimonos made by Japanese, and appropriate Japan culture to use as a political tool. They are the real racists. They insult Japanese, saying Japanese thoughts does not matter.
>/r/weeaboo is leaking. Japanese Americans and Japanese in Japan live in different racial climates, and what is comfortable in Japan might not be to a Japanese/Asian American. It doesn't matter how it is perceived in Japan, it is the effect it has on Asian Americans here that is the problem. Fuck the NHK for supporting it here
The MOD of /r/asianamerican say I make personal attack because I say persons who appropriate Japanese culture and insult Japanese and Japanese culture are racist. MOD deleted response by Japanese who supports Japanese culture and presents evidence, and does not delete the non-Japanese attacks on Japanese culture. This is obvious prejudice. I say this to /r/asianamerican and MOD BAN me. MOD protects the racist attacks on Japanese, and BAN Japanese who speak for culture and rights of self. They are racist.
All Japanese peoples support the Boston kimono event, and say this people attacking event is not Japanese and is appropriating Japanese cultures.
To appropriate culture is racism, says the people who opposes kimono event. But these people is appropriating Japanese culture. They are the racists. Japanese culture is not their culture. If they attack Japanese culture, they are racists.
KIMONOS IS JAPANESE CULTURES. KIMONOS IS NOT ASIAN AMERICAN CULTURES. ASIAN AMERICAN ATTACKING JAPANESE CULTURES IS RACIST.

Question about 'quirks' of spoken Japanese, for lack of a better word.
I've recently gotten really into a Japanese singer named Tatsuro Yamashita. Something interesting I've noticed about his songs are that he very often says r-sound characters with a strong L sound. Hitori as Hitoli, Sayonara as Sayonala, etc. This is pretty consistent through many of his songs. I know that there are peculiarities to all spoken word and furthermore that singing follows very different rules from normal speaking, but is there something that would make someone pronounce their r-sounds this way? He's also very capable of singing in English, with a Japanese accent only very seldom affecting his pronunciation, and in English he has no problem with L and R sounds. Is there perhaps a certain dialect or other thing which may affect his pronunciation to cause those L-heavy pronunciations?
Where to begin?
Hey guys, I'm a 22 year old NEET who's only dream in life is to work in Japan, doing anything, teaching, gardening, running a shop, working at a shop or fast food, anything. But I know know where to start. The overwhelming feeling that first step is taking is making me hesitate, but I feel like if I wait any longer life will pass me by, and I'll look back with regret at what could have been. Please help me.
Hi!
Can you guys help me out?
I am trying to find some info about a female singer named Ranko ( ランコ).
She was a singer for Undead Corporation (the guys that make Touhou OSTs) until they swapped her for Merami Pop (the band became shit afterwards tbh).
I cant find squat about her.
Here is one of their songs:
Being an alien in Japan
So, I want to go to Japan at some point, but I'm afraid of being stared down. I've read a lot online about foreigners being stared at, looked weirdly at, etc.. Is it really that excessive? I heard it's not as bad in Tokyo, but I want to visit some smaller cities as well. I don't like people staring at me though. Anyone got any experience with this? Did you get used to it?GLORIA LUX BRITANNIA

I know of the JET program, but I an not too sure if I can meet that criteria for a number of reasons. I have always had an interest in Japanese culture, even taking it as a second language in high school, and recently I have decided that I should study there. Problem is, I am a 22 year old at community college(used to go to private, but suicide attempt then a long break kind of brought me there) and I am aware that scholarships like Monbukagakusho might not work for me when it comes to undergraduate. I'll be getting my associates by spring 2015, and maybe after that, I will get a job in QA(relative will hook me up) so I can raise money and pay for my expenses.Digimon Adventure Tri, Taito
