It will be a great help once you're in Japan. Just learn a few each week. Try reading or writing sentences with these new kanji then, as practise makes you fluent in reading them.
Also check ANKI, it's a learning program, you can learn sentences, vocabulary and kanji easy with it.

If you're always on the move, you might check the Android App: "Obenkyo", it will help you learn vocabulary, kanji and grammer. I think it is the best japanese learning app, as it makes you also fluent in reading and lets you correct sentences to get the grammer in mind.
