Do Japanese read western comics at all? Comic books are not as popular as they used to be in America, but the interest seems to be picking up again with the transition to digital format.

I've never read it, but I know their existences.
When it comes to American comics("AMEKOMI"),
I know Marvel has made the live-action movies.

Yeah, I figured most people are familiar with Marvel and DC movies. Those have huge companies like Disney and Warner Bros behind them.

I do like how comic book movies build their own continuity and carry the plot from one movie to the next. Somewhat a unique approach in filmmaking.

Did you watch any comics-based movies?

Well, yes. US is the origin of the medium as we know it.

But the US are east of Japan, huehuehue. Sorry for shitposting.

I think most Japanese people have never read western-style comics in their life.
it goes without saying that only big titles are well-known among them, such as Spiderman, X-men and so forth.

however that is because they were just influenced by hollywood films.
I think there's no doubt they are interested in their Japanese anime, manga and LN though,
but are indifferent to western-style comics, no matter what format interest transits to.

No, that would be England.

If you mean comic strips, then yes, that's true.

I don't watch movies very much.
But I watched "Superman Returns (2006)" on TV.
And about "Blade" starring Wesley Snipes, I found out later that it is from the comic.

Have you seen Guardians of the Galaxy?

Makes me wonder if Japanese do read french-belgian comics.

No. Though I'd like to.
I live in a fucking rural area and cannot go easily to a theater.
I didn't know that that movie is also from the comic.

The comic wasn't very popular, so don't feel bad about not knowing about it. I'm sure most people didn't know about it before the movie, even over here.

There are plenty of non-mainstream comics which are made into movies, like Dredd, V for Vendetta, Watchmen, 300, Sin City. Those are all pretty good movies, check them out sometime.
