Hey Jim, I'm an agricultural degree student and I was interested to learn you own a pig farm.

Others may find it odd that you are a pig farmer and image board administrator but I think diversification into other businesses and long term investment is a smart move by any businessman, especially in the current economy.

If I may, what breed/breeds do you farm? How large is your herd? Is it an intensive or extensive system? Do you produce your own feed? Have you consulted a nutritionist? Do you AI, if so, where do you source the sperm? Do you export?

On a slightly more unrelated note, do you invest in assets or prefer to keep your money liquid?

I have been producing some chicken feed.

I process the manure with black soldier fly larvae then produce chicken feed. So far I just give it to my neighbors, but when I get it a little more streamlined, I might be able to market it.

These are native pigs. They are the preferred pig for BBQ. I don't raise native pigs, but this is what they look like. These are a friend's piglets.

I love these glimpses into your and HW's lives in PH. It makes me appreciate living better when you read about things like this:

(from HW's medium):

>In case this makes no sense to you, well, let me say that I love the Philippines in so many ways. The food is cheap and good, the women are beautiful and the weather is gorgeous year round. I can have a 24 hour caretaker for only $200 per month, and my rent is barely any more than that, and could even be cheaper if I looked more and held out for a deal. I have freedom to go wherever I like without having to call a manurety unreliable cripple cab service, and if I work hard on contracts I have money left over to go on vacation more than I ever could in the US.

It's not just turning lemon into lemonade, but realizing it was lemonade to begin with all along.

Thank you.

This is very clever jim. I knew a nigerian who did this, he dried the maggots and sold them to fisheries, he also converted rotten meat.

I like the native breed, very nice eyes. They may not have a comparable daily live weight gain but I bet the taste is great.

Do you have a cheese producer near you? I knew a pig farmer who took some of the whey from a cheese producer because it's a waste by product. The only trouble is transporting it but the pigs gain weight very fast with it.

There are few dairy farms in my area. Most of our cheese is imported. I do have a friend with a bakery, and I get his garbage often. stale doughnuts etc. In the process of sanitizing the farm now. We will buy piglets again. I am looking for either landrace, or duroc piglets at this time.

Strange. I would have thought that cheese is relatively easy to produce. Is it because dairy products aren't consumed as much as in western countries?

Almost all diary products in Philippines are imported from New Zealand, even the ones sold by local companies.

Also would add that with the exception of some water buffalo parks, pastures are rare. That's why pork and chicken are king unlike beef products since you can raise them even in the middle of the city.
