 No.176

Thread for posting art and discussing/arguing over art styles.

 No.178

part 1 - 3 had the best style, 4 was still nice to look at, but lost some of the manliness, and that was made up for by all the characters being interesting and the plot being enjoyable. Part 5 was the downfall of the style, making everyone thin as fuck; the boss, diavolo, was made puny as shit, even compared to giogio and everyone else, who all looked like they had never lifted a weight or anything. Polnereff in part 5 was heavily destroyed in the uper body, even though he lost his legs, which would mean he fucking would have to focus on arms at least. Part 6 actually looked fine even with the shittier style, and I think that's because all of the characters were female; they are lithe by default so it didn't look out of place. AND THEN I SAW PART 6 DIO. THEY RUINED HIS FUCKING FACE AND MUSCULATURE; THE NIMBLE MAN WHO WAS ON A FOOTBALL/RUGBY TEAM HAD SHRUNKEN DOWN SOMEHOW. Also jotaro looked smaller. We also start seeing heavy sameface all over. A LOT of faces look like they are the same but on different bodies, but not too different, because everyone is small as shit. All the females are basically the same with how they were drawn, and they look fine; I think Araki forgot how to draw sexy men and just got infatuated with drawing women because he met masters who all had "soft hands" and he's probably projecting that need for softness onto his characters. Part 7 is fine so far, but all the characters are small as shit still; they look fine mostly, and their faces are all distinct enough to know them, but their arms are just noodles compared to Jonosan and Josefu and even Jotaro. I have only seen bits of gappy cropped out from part 8, but it looks like part 8 is also full of noodle men, even though gappy is in the navy or some shit? And all of araki's jostars drawn in the modern day look like gappy, like, every single one has the same build and face. It makes me mad, because part 1 wasn't that great, but it was fine, part two stepped it up greatly and gave me nice males to look at when the cool shit was going on or not, and the pillarmen actually looked gigantic, even compared to our roided out joestars or zeppili.

I agree with pretty much everything said here. Part 6 Dio was embarrassing to look at. I mean, this buff powerful MANLY vampire had been reduced to a mere noodle man. Part 2 was the height of Araki's "muscle-man" style although I really enjoyed the face structure variations in Part 3 and that huge cast of memorable characters. Hearing Araki say himself that he can't draw in his old style anymore really pained me and it's a shame that all we'll get from now on is spindly skin and bones figures. I'm not really in a position to judge though, I'm just glad that Araki keeps doing his thing and producing more jojo for us to enjoy.

Hopefully he regains his soft hands and becomes good at both muscles and posing

>their arms are just noodles compared to Jonosan and Josefu and even Jotaro
It gets really ugly in some parts (but I there's a lot of ugly moments for characters nearing the end of SBR). They're still supposed to be /fit/ but they've still got thin arms. Sandman is probably the fittest guy there in terms of size and he's still not near the fit guys from the older parts.

>I think Araki forgot how to draw sexy men

Pretty much, it's the lack of diversity in character shapes (or just not going full muscleman anymore). Some characters work better skinnier, but not Dio and the like.

>even though gappy is in the navy or some shit?

He just wears the outfit. No mention of the military yet.

I think the art style works for the current parts, not for the previous, i'm nearing the end of part 7 right now, and I can't really imagine it looking like past Jojo, I don't think it'd work looking like past Jojo either, same being said with Part Six and five (except Dio and Jotaro, holy shit they looked horrible), that being said part 1-3 having the current art style would be horrible as shit and I won't lie when you say same face, it's true; I don't know, I like both art styles, but I wouldn't want current arcs to be like the previous ones, nor would I want to previous ones to be like the current, though some machoness could come around

4 is the best
why? because its expressive as fuck, most characters after part 5 looks like nearly lifeless models in comparaison.Part 7 too is gorgeous there isnt that much of sameface except for that infamous cover.the shading is beautiful and the weight of the clothes is well placed.its pretty

I don't know if it's just a SBR thing, because it's the only place I've seen it, I keep finding eyelashes stretched down a character's cheek.

Plus something I always liked was the ink stroke moments. They get used pretty well. It's something different.

>>243
Part 4 had some great art par the first volume or so. The goofy/'cartoony' expressions really worked for it - I'm kind of surprised it hasn't made a reappearance in Jojolion.

 No.279

>>271
I think those eyelash stretches are just really well defined shadows of the lashes that stretch along the face.

 No.280

>>279
That's true (and obvious now that I think about it) - I really only thought of it because of some of the other 'oddly' drawn eyelashes. Then again that page looks like it was cleaned and the lines are slightly darker and bigger than they're supposed to be (some of the kanji is just a blur), so it might look better in the original.

How do you just forget to draw things like that? It would have been better to just retrace to be honest. I don't know what is up with Araki.

Yeah, I'm not particularly sure how he managed to get the hair wrong either. He got it right here but it's like he's going for the Diego/Giorno curls.

A retrace or an abstract cover would have worked better, agreed.

I guess he's moving onto the Part 4 characters next.

>Part 4 in this style

Please god no, I can't bear imagining what's going to happen to Okuyasu. Assuming he turns up at all.

Kira's going to look like shit if he isn't Bowie.

I don't understand

Diego looked fine in part 7, right

It's like he's been trying too hard on these covers

YouTube embed. Click thumbnail to play.

Not a new video but it's interesting to watch Araki draw.

Plus here's a download to his Manga Technique book (not in English, obviously).

No way part 4 is best. Parts 1-3 are so damn manly, and then halfway part 4 everyone started to look like a fag, and it stayed that way until SBR 's incredible art style came along to save the progressively gay looking artstyle.

 No.910

>>906

What are you talking about, SBR's style looks the gayest of all.
