Lagunita sumpin sumpin
Not too impressed. I usually sip on Lagunita IPA for my every day food. I would figure something they try to advertise as extra special and worth the extra cost over their standard fare would be better. It's a little too rich and too sweet for the hops. It might be good to use in cooking as that extra sweetness would cook into some pulled pork. Give a Pork Shoulder a nice brown sugar based spice rub and put it on a bed of garlic peppers and onions and Crockpot it for eight or nine hours. The slight bitter finish would mellow in the sauce and blend with the peppers pretty well. Probably save the rest of the sixer for things like that.

Sam Adams is absolute shit. Most of the major distributed IPAs are. There are some like Lagunitas that get very large regional distribution and so you start drinking them out of habit if you moved around a lot because you know you can get something acceptably tasty and you are familiar with but they are still limited to a certain region or two. The problem is that taste in beer varies wildly across the country but the only good taste is found where I live. We have so many breweries where I am it is ridiculous. This has created a new problem where beer secondaries from places with shit tasting beers come here and they think since anything that is a little thick, bitter, or astringent tastes the same to them unlike their chilled vaguely beerish piss water then something that is thicker even more bitter and very astringent must be extra good and they end up shitting out "premium" microbrews that faggot hipsters and yuppies force themselves to drink because they don't know shit about beer and it just becomes this game of emperors new clothing where cocksuckers constantly feed off of each others stupidity and talk about how much they love this and that and the other with this bullshit descriptions about notes and hints when they couldn't tel a pale ale from an IPA unless you told them what they were drinking. But since these faggots have money from mommy and daddy they will pay for this premium priced garbage and bars see it makes money so they stock it over good beer and you end up with shit tasting over priced "luxury" beer and the average joe ends up having to drink pisswater because it is the only thing in an acceptable price range since the good local beers were pushed off the shelves by a bunch of limp dicked you know what I was going to go into a whiskey fueled rant about why some people are absolute garbage and uncontrollable faggots but I think I should just stop here before I open that can of worms.

Yeah I was wrong about IPA. Just got some black stone "delicious" ipa and Deschutes fresh squeezed IPA and they're both delicious. The deschutes is especially good and has this different sort of floral taste to it that's refreshing since Ive been getting burned out on lager.
As for micro brew bullshit, yeah they're just the latest overpriced bullshit trend hipsters have latched onto, which really just marks yet another thing they've ruined the image of for others. Yeah Deschutes is an Oregon Brewery. They have a slightly more astringent taste that is either fruity or flowery. Add to that that Oregon Style IPAs tend towards the higher gravity end of the IPA spectrum and you get something that is sweeter, more bitter, with a polished aftertaste. Make sure you don't grab a Double IPA (also called an Imperial IPA) by mistake though. It's the other type of Pale Ale that is favored there and it tends to be a completely different animal. I don't care for them as they are so intent on making the beer intense that it drowns out the flavors. Washington beers generally are less bitter and intense then Oregon beers with the exception of their Ales and Stouts. If you want a strong beer(up to 25%abv) that isn't a complete palate wrecker you want to try some of their stuff. Freemont Brewing Company makes some pretty good ones, but I recommend eating with that as the flavor is still very strong and it's best you don't go hog wild on an empty stomach. Something salty is always good, like salmon jerky or smoked meat.
Knob Creek and water for me tonight because my friend above me was talking about bourbon and made me thirsty for it.
Why do people insist on drinking alcohol straight? A good whiskey or bourbon has a very complex flavor, but if you drink it straight you can't appreciate that. If you mix it with soda you are wasting good liquor when you could have just bought some bottom shelf. A highball with 1:5 water whiskey mix mellows the alcohol down enough were you can appreciate the taste without the burn killing your taste buds and is still strong enough to warm you up all the way down. I'm not drinking to impress some teenbro that thinks you need to slam as much alcohol into your system as fast as possible. I am drinking to get nice and drunk and enjoy an entire day. Why would I want to sip away at something and not enjoy it?

>Why do people insist on drinking alcohol straight? A good whiskey or bourbon has a very complex flavor, but if you drink it straight you can't appreciate that.
Can't really agree with that. Maybe I've just burned the fuck out of my mouth too much throughout my life, but it's rare for me to taste the alcohol over the flavour of good sour mash, at least with sub 100 proof stuff. Watering it down to 60 or 50 kind of defeats the purpose of drinking good stuff in my opinion, since watered down whiskey all kind of tastes the same to me. If anything, I'd argue the sign of quality bourbon is it's ability to broadcast it's flavour straight (minus a few drops to open it up).
>Why would I want to sip away at something and not enjoy it?
Guess it really is a matter of taste, since the burn doesn't hit me or fuck with the flavour at the 80 proof or so most mid shelfs bottle at. In fact diluting it more actually seems to cut away the taste for me.
No.19418

Adding a little water seems to bring the full sweet and rich flavor of bourbon to life. I mean that is the real difference I drink it instead of say whiskey or scotch. Bourbon has that sweet almost woody taste that makes it so good. Drinking it straight just defeats the purpose and makes it nigh indistinguishable from from other liquors of the same branch.
Now Scotch on the other hand I will always drink straight because it's defining facet is the different ways it expresses it's smokiness. Adding anything to that other than a few pieces of ice to chill takes away from the intensity that makes it so damn good. Whether it is peaty or salty or malty Scotch needs to be drank straight.
No.19419

I dunno, I drink woodford which if I recall sits a little high around 90, but is smooth enough the burn doesn't interrupt the woody taste. As far as I'm concerned the same rules as scotch apply to good bourbon for much the same reasons. You just don't get the same depth of tones when it's cut too much.
> Drinking it straight just defeats the purpose and makes it nigh indistinguishable from from other liquors of the same branch.
Strongly disagree there, the woodiness stands out best at higher concentrations.
No.19430

Double IPA sounds like extra stout, Guinness to be specific. I used to love extra stout till I got burnt out on it and later discovered the variety of flavors alcohol has to offer. Part of the charm of beer is the flavor, and brews like extra stout just fill that dull middle line between beer and liquor which is undesirable to me. If I want beer Ill drink beer, if Im in the mood for liquor, Ill drink liquor. I like it when a drink does what it does, and does it well. I'll have to try some Fremont next time I got shopping though. It's always nice when beer reaches that strong level while still maintaining it's flavor and what not.
As for bouron, it's the king of liquor as far as my personal opinion goes. I dont know if it's because I'm from kentucky, or if it's just a part of my personal taste, but I love the taste and burn of it straight. Everything about it really, espeically how it can be enjoyed both straight and on the rocks, presenting different aspects of itself in both forms of consumption.
My grandfather who is my only role model in my life always drank black coffee, which I soon followed after as a kid, finding the taste of it delicious after using sweeteners and milk learned from my mother for the longest time. Either way I prefer stronger tasting drink over mellow most often than not. I probably picked it up from my love of black coffee, but my preference for bourbon is almost always straight.
Also, try Woodford Reserve next time you want bourbon. It's a decently priced (here at least) and is absolutely exquisite straight. Eagle rare is also good.

Btw you're both wrong, the proper way to drink it is two fingers in a rocks glass with a dash of water, half a tablespoon or so.

You need just enough water to mellow the alcohol a bit and let the other flavors shine through. Too much dilutes the whole thing and makes it tasteless and watery.

I lucked out and even though I was a few minutes past closing time clerk is a friend of mine and still sold me a sixer of Mirror Pond. Not my favorite but it felt right after drinking cheap wine today. I was drinking this 47 lbs Cock Cab which was cheap as fuck at the gas station, and it was surprisingly good for the price. I don't know if they cut it with anti-freeze to improve the taste but it was just sweet enough to be absolutely delicious without being too much. Didn't really go with the meat pies I made, they were pork based, but it was still tasty.

So my sister in law made a shit ton of fry bread dough and invited everyone over to eat as long as we all brought something. My sister brought honey and whipping creme and me and my sister in laws brother both brought alcohol. Basically we got drunk as fuck and made a bunch of noise and ate junk food, but what is really news is my 14 year old niece decided she was an adult and so she was going to drink with us. After attempting to sip at some of the beer I brought and getting sick from the taste she had a rum and coke my sister in law's brother brought and tried to act like a sophstiticated lady while we all laughed before getting too drunk off of two drinks and asking my brother to carry her home insisting she be carried like an adult(princess style). I am drinking a nice dry Spanish wine and feeling very comfy right now, and it makes me think. A NEET is basically the equivalent of a modern-day nobleman, provided you don't have financial troubles or depression. Just lazing around all day, enjoying nice and tasty things, doing nothing at all but the things you really want to do. It is perfect.
