Pigmhall is not vaporwave. There's no sampling and the aesthetic clearly distances itself from any ideological content. I'd tolerate a description putting it anywhere between IDM, glitch and lolicore - but certainly not vaporwave.

You have the typical horrible vaporwave in mind, the kind that makes obvious political statements, is self-conscious and uses samples uncreatively.

Pigmhall has the vibes of fun vaporwave. It's like children of humans and waifu androids cheerfully and ignorantly hypercontextualizing traces of culture from our times. There's no criticism of anything and there's no meaning like in case of any good vaporwave. Because the collective human consciousness from the utopian/dystopian future do not grasp or don't care about the concepts we deal with nowadays. Kind of like Japanese musicans in the 80s when they were copying cliches from western music.

Agreed, which definitively marks its departure from vaporwave. There's no retrofuturism, irony, or degradation of consumerism.

His musical structure also differs significantly. Instrumentally it's repetitive, violent and crude. Vaporwave is characteristically spacey, meandering and subject to far less internal structural expectations. They both recontextualize cultural artifacts, but that's about it.

pigmhall is not related to vaporwave.

I'm sure he was doing this long before the vaporwave craze blew up.

His style is a lot different, looks and feels very different. It's much closer to denpa.
