/v/ was just moved over to Infinity Next and it's a million times worse than anyone could have possibly predicted. It feels like the site is being DDoSed and the frontend is slower than the worst "web app." It's quite possibly the worst web experience I've ever had.
I always thought people were fearmongering but now I sincerely believe that once the other boards are transferred to Next, this site is finished. It's been nice taking it easy with you guys, the few survivors of the old days of /jp/, but it looks like this is the end. May we meet again one day in Gensokyo.

What do you guys think of http://endchan.xyz/ ?
They removed their shitty global rules (no lolis etc) in favor of the simple no illegal content/no CP just like here.
Somebody already made /jp/ and I have no idea if it's someone from here, but supposedly 8chan board owners can claim their respective boards over there ( http://endchan.xyz/operate/res/80.html#86 ).
This might be another viable alternative site beside http://t-tchn.rhcloud.com/jp , though I'm not sure how it would work out.

OP is overdramatizing shit. The problem here that software was starved of resources. If you want to test it without a big user base eating up all the RAM, you can move to the beta instance of the board as it is recommended.
>It is suggested that small boards, particularly those suffering the most from frozen indexes and white pages, migrate as soon as possible. As in, right now. Your board should be there. If you want to switch, make a sticky and point to the new board. Because of how files were migrated, the sooner your board swtiches, the better it will be. Attachments lost on 8ch.net are also lost on the beta because they are linked, so the longer your board stays active on 8ch.net, the less migrated content will exist on the new site when the switch is forced for all boards.

I wanna take a step back for a sec here and say something, don't we deserve a new website?
Before IN was a thing, 8chan along with every other imageboard in existence (aside from 4chan maybe) used some variation of vichan/tinyboard, except that ours was greatly improved upon with added features while the others were mostly vanilla. But of course this came at the price of bugs and endless flood/time-out/503 errors which everyone complained about and subsequently threatened to leave, all before IN was introduced... These errors are nowhere to be seen in IN
HW stated that it's useless to keep patching the old software because new bugs will always arise, so he decided to make a new and improved software from scratch as a replacement. I believed it was a step in the right direction because it could set a new gold standard for the very traditional imageboards and allow better competition with 4chan, and I still do... We can truly be unique if we always took the initiative to try new things and set trends instead of living off others' scraps. No other imageboard has attempted doing something as big as IN and the result is that they all function the same, stale way. Think about that.
And speaking of which, I've been using Infinity for a month now and it's usable from what I can tell. The interface is foreign and gets buggy on mobile sometimes but the upload/post process is heavily streamlined and helps me shitpost with pictures/sound/video way faster, nowhere near the clusterfuck that was the early beta... It will take some time before the interface is fully polished and all the features from the old software get re-added (e.g. YT embedding) but I'm expecting good end results.
TL;DR Don't lose faith in our home so fast. We survived vanilla h8chan right after the exodus, I don't see why we shouldn't be able to survive IN.
If you're leaving make sure to visit again soon when things get better.

Personally I'm not as interested in problems with the software as I am in the concept of user created boards. It was an interesting idea but I don't think it's working out.
Is the future of imageboards really doomed to be so disconnected and unorganized? Am I really expected to lurk multiple identical communities with the purpose of judging the mods rather than the users of the board itself, and is it supposed to be acceptable for me to question every day if I chose the right boards or if someone created a better clone today?
In the end I think sometimes a walled garden with a few caretakers can be better than a public one.
At the very least someone needs to decide how to organize boards and topics.

To 8chan's benefit, I can't think of a single board here that has worse moderation than the 4chan equivalent. Generally somewhere in between 4chan and other small imageboards as far as mod quality goes.
As an aside, did the recent port break anybody else's security certificate in Firefox? I have to post through IE because Firefox just gives me the "Untrusted Connection" page ad infinitum.

If there are several boards about one topic you will find users 'condensed' into one or two of them maximum. No sane person would bare lurking numerous identical boards at the same time without eventually choosing one and sticking with it... So unless these boards that you're torn between are all very active (which is definitely not the case) you should just go with the one you like best or the one with enough users to your liking. Simple as that.
No.23610

>disconnected and unorganized
The top 5 boards account for 70% of the site's post.
>sometimes a walled garden with a few caretakers can be better than a public one
You get the same thing here with decentralization, it's just vastly easier to administrate.
>someone needs to decide how to organize boards and topics
Who better than people who actually use the fucking board?
No.23612
>>23584
By organization what I mean is you have multiple organization schemes all mixed together. Some boards are separated by genres, some by particular shows or games, some boards are separated by ideals, some boards have everything in common with other boards except who is in control.
The people who use the site will never all agree on how to organize content.
Say you're a fan of anime but you think every series should just have its own board, while others think there should be a single board for discussion on all anime series. Half the people will end up doing it one way and half the other.
In the end you'll end up only seeing a fraction of the threads unless you browse multiple boards to find the same content and are aware of the different ways people are choosing to organize boards.

Not that anon but what you're saying is an inevitable side effect of freedom; anyone can make a board about anything no matter how specific or general.
>Half the people will end up doing it one way and half the other.
You mean they will be split up on two boards? If that's the case then surely one of them will be more active than the other, just go for the more active one or lurk both if they're equally active...
8chan since its inception was about being able to make your own board, why are you even here if you don't like that aspect?

>8chan since its inception was about being able to make your own board
It's not that I don't like it, I just don't think it works as well as we all thought at first. I came here to give it a try because it seemed like a good idea at the time. The only issue I see with it is as I've explained I think it just stretches all the communities thin.
Plus the way 8ch in particular is implemented I'm not sure it'll ever really be a coherent "8ch community". It's more like a build your own imageboard website and there will just be separate circles that form
