So lets get down to business, what do you guys want to see here? I used to occasionally post on /jrpgg/ before it become shitposting general and don't it to turn into that.

Should we advertise or wait for people to find it on their own? A lot of people seem to be spread thin over boards for individual franchises.

Not sure if people even bother to check this board but I'm still around. Haven't been playing much but I picked up the first 2 Suikoden games off PSN.

A general thread for all JRPG news.

Since we're slow it'd work better than loads of small threads.

So, to start, new Persona 5 trailer that was shown during the Atlus stream.

http://techraptor.net/content/release-datemore-details-for-pc-release-of-ys-vi-the-ark-of-napishtim-released

>Originally announced with a release window for this spring, it has now been confirmed that the game will go on sale on Steam, GOG, and the Humble Store on April 28th – along with the new release date, XSEED has also announced that the game will cost $19.99 on all storefronts, with a 15% discount around launch. Furthermore – as a special treat for longtime fans of the series, the company has released a previously near-impossible to find artbook on the official Ys VI site, for anyone to download!

>In Ys VI‘s case – this includes the standard widescreen and steamworks support, as well as the brand new Catastrophe Mode that XSEED detailed within their first Localization Blog a few weeks ago.

>No Falcom thread

Let's fix that. Also state of the next English releases:

>Gurumin

Delayed to early (Q1) 2015.

>Brandish 1 PSP remake

Probably this month, no joking. It's a very small game in terms of script.

>Ys VI

No idea, but it's slowly getting importance at XSEED

What order should I play Ys in? Should I chronologically or does it not matter?

 No.211

If you don't care about the story it doesn't really matter. If you do then I -> II -> Origin, and Celceta last; all others in whichever order you want.

Are the PSP versions of the Ys games good to play? Is there any cut content or something similar?

Honestly? No.

Not in the English localization, at least. In Japan ver it was insinuated there were sinister implications to the dream world.

Wu.

He did because he pretty much blew up the world and ruined his friends' dreams and murdered people.

He didn't because his friends were trapped in a dream world anchored by their wishes, granted in a way that was kind of bittersweet.

He did because he didn't explain crap to his friends, or really (to my recollection) his guild. Kind of makes you wonder about them and why they were following along this crazy guy who thought their world was a fake.

It's complicated.

Tales of discussion always brings things to life, so what do you think of this franchise?

Which have you played so far and what is your favourite?

I put Tales of Abyss on hold for a while to start some other games but I was thinking of going back to it though I'm tempted to start a new game but I hate all the back tracking. I know I've missed a few side quests but I don't think they were that important, I got Guy's and Luke's Artes.

In the end I decided to stick with my current save, I'm currently going around doing the Passage rings and found it pretty easy to come back to. Unfortunately its the 3DS version, it doesn't really feel that comfortable and it has noticable jaggies but at least it gave PAL countries a chance to play it. Tear is really growing on me, I can see why she is a favourite.

>>112
Graces f was my introduction and it was very satisfying to get the Platinum trophy. I've never played Symphonia, waiting for the HD collection to go cheap.

>>116
Vesperia PS3 was my first (and only) untranslated game, I played a bit of it and it looked rather promising.

 No.156

I played phantasia on a SNES emulator but I haven't been able to get into any Tales of game since, they all feel bush league compared to Phantasia.

 No.166

>>156
I've just started on that myself. My brother is more of a Tales guy than I am, but SNES and PS1 RPGs are hard to beat.

 No.193

Played Graces f, Xillia, Xillia 2. Abyss has been ordered and is on its way. Thinking of getting Symphonia Chronicles after Abyss, but I've got other JRPGs in my list to play as well.

Order of preference thus far: Xillia, Xillia 2, Graces f.

 No.203

Finally got the Platinum for Xillia, the last few trophies felt like a real chore but having to do both characters wasn't too bad.

>>193
I found Graces f more enjoyable, story wise it was a bit lacking but the main game flowed better and I enjoyed all the side stuff more than what Xillia had to offer.

Hope you enjoy Abyss, I still need to finish it.

I don't think that Square-Enix is capable of making decent games anymore. I think that it would be a complete folly to even care about this game at all whatsoever.

Square-Enix have been in freefall for years and they're not about to make a good game any time soon.

Speaking of seeing more of the world. They've shown more footage here with an English translator.

Starts at roughly 1h37m17s

1h04m22s has Type-0 HD footage

 No.198

They've been showing off more of FFXV at PAX/GDC (I don't remember which) and all I've realised is that the party members names are fucking stupid.

Not sure how long they expect people to run around on foot trying to get a car in a massive field without it being boring. Everything new I see about it makes it less and less interesting.

Type-0 HD comes with a demo of it, so there's that.

 No.195[Reply]

I played the original Disgaea PSP version a while back and got to Chapter 7 then just stopped playing but decided to come back to it, sort of forgotten what I was doing at the time.

Right now Laharl is 46 and seems fine, Etna is a little low at 40 and feels a bit weak but she has her uses, Flonne is 44 and pretty good with Mega Star. I have a 39 Bishop with Mega Ice, a 37 Bishop with Mega Fire and a 42 fighter, I haven't really used much of the Story based characters though I think I used Maderas a little while. All of them seem reasonably geared, but I'm thinking my best bet would to the Item world and get everybody to level 40.

Not sure whether to spend all the time grinding in this one considering how long I've heard it can take, I'd rather invest that time in one of the newer titles.

Trying to track down a local copy of Disgaea 2 is proving to be a bit difficult, seen the Ps2 version though I'd rather the PSP definitive version. I don't have a PSV yet so not in a rush to play 3/4. How is DD2? Should I jump straight into that after I've finished?

So far it's all right. I'm enjoying the ability to move around - standing in a particular spot was better imo. I'm not using Ashe at all; I know I should, I need a black mage (Fran doubles as one as well, I suppose) but two fighters and a healer is working so far.

Should I jump back into Strange Journey or give Nocturne ago? Or should I give Digital Devil Saga chance? I've only played P3 and 14 hours of SJ so far.

Also SMT discussion; what's your favourite demon? Law / Chaos / Neutral?

I emulated it first because nobody stocked it then when I did get it I got 12hours in and got lost but I recently loaded my save and found my way. Really enjoyed it, was worth the investment I just need to stop jumping from game to game.

Samael.I fuckin' love Samael.
Best demon.

And route depends on game.Like Law sucks in SMT Strange Journey but its pretty good in SMT IV.
But Mostly I go with Neutral as its pretty cool

Just bumping this with new P5 info.

>The protagonist is a second year high-schooler who moves to Tokyo during the springtime. Instead of living with relatives, he lives with his parents’ friends in a coffee shop. The Shibuya district is specifically mentioned, but the game will take place across various locales in modern, urban Japan.

>The ball and chains seen in previous trailers represent the protagonist harboring some kind of problem which, if gone unaddressed, could be a huge problem later on. This is evident in the scene depicted in the trailer in which the protagonist is trapped in some kind of mental trap or prison.

>Unlike previous games in the series, the trailer confirms that dungeons are no longer entirely randomly generated; there are set piece areas that are crafted to showcase the thievery motif shown in the trailers, which also have extra material added. However, this doesn’t mean randomly generated areas are gone completely.

>The Social Link option will seemingly be making a comeback, despite not appearing in the latest trailer. Famitsu teases that a Social Link-esque system is currently in the works, but that’s as much as they revealed.

>Finally, we’ve gotten confirmation of the protagonist’s first Persona, dubbed simply Arsène (probably a reference to Arsène Lupin). When characters summon their Personas, they no longer make the “ka!” sound, but instead make a “buchi!” sound.

http://nichegamer.net/2015/02/heres-the-first-info-for-persona-5s-setting-protagonist-dungeons-and-more/

I'll probably play Lucifer's Call Nocturne before it comes out again but it's been so long I don't really remember much (apart from that I enjoyed it and a few bits).
