A general thread for all JRPG news.

Since we're slow it'd work better than loads of small threads.

So, to start, new Persona 5 trailer that was shown during the Atlus stream.

 No.172

Looks more like P2 and less like P4
Which is an amazing thing.
Also seems demons are back as we're shown the MC fighting sandman.
Hoping for demon negotiations to make a comeback

Stickied.

Originally I didn't want to get hyped in case of disappointment but the trailer looked promising.

Xenoblade Chronicles N3DS North American release date is set for 10th April 2015.

Well, that is the point of the trailer.

I understand why they want to keep a lot of what made P4 popular but I never got into that one. This one looks more like my thing. We'll have to see. Hopefully they'll aim for something different enough to catch more interest but similar enough that the P4-fans enjoy it.

They also put out a message on the website that has some info. Bit long but here's the important bits.

>With Persona 5, we’re taking a challenge with combining a teenager school setting that is larger than life, alongside something like a picaresque romance. In the previous game, we had a story featuring a group seeking a bad guy for justice, while risking their own lives.

>In this game, the story revolves around a group of highschoolers that are being “chased” by unforeseen circumstances, due to the type of justice they believe in. We’re penning [the story] to hopefully portray an everyday, yet exciting life from the perspective of these characters.

>The team are working together as we progress through development phases, so as you can expect the sound and graphics will evolve, alongside party members. You can expect the protagonists to be a little bit more behaved in comparison to previous characters.

>We’re all pouring lots of emotions into this game. This is a product of Atlus, who is known to embrace unique traits, although some people say that a strong personality can go against common rules or social norms – so this could be seen as chaotic as well.

>Despite this, we see a person’s character as being able to affect others in both good and bad ways, and it can even affect how you might think or behave yourself. This is the potential that we see in this sort of thing.

>Last month, on January 19, Square Enix Holdings filed trademarks for both “Squaresoft” and “Enix“.

>Japanese gaming sites speculate that Square Enix will become the parent company to two subsidiaries named Squaresoft and Enix, and that each company will have a different focus in the video game market.

>Square Company and Enix Corporation merged in 2003 to become Square Enix. The merger had been in consideration since 2000, but the financial failure of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within in 2001 made Enix skittish. Following Square’s recovery with Final Fantasy X and Kingdom Hearts, the companies finally merged.

>>After lots of teasing and a curious ESRB rating, XSEED Games has finally confirmed that Lord of Magna: Maiden Heaven is coming west on the Nintendo 3DS.

>Sometimes one’s path is chosen by fate. Luchs is one such soul, whose peaceful innkeeping days were numbered once he discovered a bracelet known as “Lachryma.” Suddenly accosted by strange fiends, he’s saved by a mysterious faerie encased in crystal whose memories are spotty at best. Luchs decides to help her recover these memories and, in doing so, encounters numerous other faeries just like her, each wielding unique powers and remembering a little more about their storied pasts as the entourage grows.

>Lord of Magna: Maiden Heaven boasts a unique strategic battle system which encourages players to aim their attacks just right in order to “bowl” over as many enemies as possible with a single strike. Players can also turn the tide of battle by crafting new skills with unique items obtainable through StreetPass registration and participation in Free Battles. With adjustable difficulty levels during gameplay and a fast-forward feature to help speed through cutscenes for battle-hungry players, the customizable experience on offer here promises to leave lasting memories, complemented by in-game movie and art galleries that allow players to review key dramatic moments at will.

>This title will launch in the spring, and has been rated “T” for Teen by the ESRB. More information will be shared in the coming weeks.

Somebody's released another uncensored version of Mother 2. It's pretty much completed minus something with the title screen and some bugs (details in the second link). It doesn't use the Japanese names but does change some of the less accurate ones.

>This is an Earthbound hack which takes as ultimate goal to make it as close to Mother 2 as possible, taking care of most of the uncensoring that NOA made during the localization of Mother 2, including even the Gas and Title Screen modified to match that of Mother 2, and also a modified Credits sequence.

>Mainly, create the best experience possible of Mother 2/Earthbound, combining an uncensored version of Earthbound made from scratch (graphical and text-wise), and also adequate a Mother 2 title screen and references, this ROM will no longer be named EarthBound, but rather a proper Mother 2 american version of the game, like it was supposed to be and leaving the main game intact (without modifying any core-gameplay mechanics).

Tales of Zestiria Is Listed on the Steam Database

Of course nobody has an archive because that would require a brain because now it's been changed to 'TOZ'. (ノ´ー`)ノ

I think with tri-Ace being bought by a mobile company and Squeenix having a soft spot for unimpressive announcements, everybody was dreading an iOS game. I'm glad it's not the case.

I need to give the franchise another go. I attempted SO3 several times and gave up.

Furthermore – as a special treat for longtime fans of the series, the company has released a previously near-impossible to find artbook on the official Ys VI site, for anyone to download!
